From the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, AZ
Your hosts are Vince McMahon, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Jerry “The King” Lawler
This week, we have the Nasty Boys & Kamala vs. Money Inc. & Mr. Hughes. Plus, Razor Ramon vs. El Matador in a King of the Ring qualifying match
Money Inc. & Mr. Hughes vs. Nasty Boys & Kamala w/ Slick
Vince says that every manager in the WWF seems something in Mr. Hughes. Lawler then gets teased for not being in the King of the Ring tournament. DiBiase offers money to Kamala and Kamala gives it to Slick then beats on DiBiase. Knobbs tags in and hammers away until DiBiase cuts him off with a knee smash. IRS misses an elbow drop then Knobbs hammers away. We return from break with Kamala missing a charge in the corner as Mr. Hughes tags in and they slug it out. Kamala knocks down Hughes and tags out but Hughes beats down Knobbs before tagging out. DiBiase ducks his head for a back drop but that gets countered as Knobbs tags out with Sags running wild. The match breaks down after that then Kamala splashes IRS but is unable to turn him over for the pin then gets distracted and that allows IRS to roll him up from behind for the win (7:36) *1/2. After the match, Slick tries to explain why Kamala lost.
Thoughts: The match was fine but this actually wound up being the final appearance of both the Nasty Boys and Slick. Kamala would be gone in a few months himself and neither Slick or Kamala liked their pairing, thinking it was a bad idea.
We now get the brand new “Face to Face” segment which has replaced the Event Center. Gene Okerlund is the host and we get “via satellite” interviews to hype up house show matches. Its really just the Event Center set Mooney has been using with a SNL Weekend Update like screen.
Another Smoking Gunns vignette to hype up their debut.
Sean Dakota vs. Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji
The crowd starts up a USA chant as Yokozuna overpowers Dakota with ease. The announcers talk about the Yokozuna/Duggan feud then Yokozuna uses the Bonzai Drop for the win (2:54).
Thoughts: More hype for Duggan/Yokozuna as they did not really touch upon Yokozuna’s title match at the King of the Ring. That match received hype in the King of the Ring report.
King of the Ring Report with Gene Okerlund.
Steve Vega vs. Crush
Savage talks about visiting Crush in Hawaii as Crush beats down Vega. Crush then hits a belly-to-belly suplex as Vince says Mr. Perfect vs. Doink will have a rematch with the winner entering the King of the Ring tournament. Crush stays in control then uses the head vice for the win (2:00).
Thoughts: The big news here is that we would once again be seeing Perfect vs. Doink in a KotR qualifying match although it was not discussed when that would happen.
WWF Update with Gorilla Monsoon. We see still photos of Luna Vachon attacking Sensational Sherri at WrestleMania along with video footage of the backstage attack at the first aid station. We then see some of their brawl from RAW then comments from both women.
King of the Ring Qualifying Match: Razor Ramon vs. El Matador
Razor breaks a waist lock by grabbing the ropes. Razor then drops Matador after a cheap shot in the corner then fires away. Matador comes back with a flying forearm that gets two as Razor got his foot on the ropes. Matador works the arm but Razor escapes then catches Matador with a hotshot. Razor beats on Matador but Matador fights back. Matador runs wild and heads up top for a crossbody but Razor rolls through and grabs the tights for the win (3:19) *1/2.
Thoughts: Fine for what it was but kind of a cheap win for a guy who just last week was being pushed as a favorite to win the tournament. Really do not know why they protected Tito here.
Raymond Rougeau welcomes Giant Gonzales & Harvey Whippleman to the interview platform. Whippleman says that Undertaker keeps coming back not because he has guts but due to his stupidity and his next match against Gonzalez will be his last. Whippleman then calls out Tatanka as the next opponent Gonzalez destroys as those two will meet in a King of the Ring qualifying match which will happen next week. We now know that Tatanka vs. Gonzalez is next week’s KotR qualifying match.
Thoughts: The focus is still the KotR PPV with Ramon advancing and Lawler yet again being teased for not wanting to take part of the tournament. We get another qualifying match for next week and had a longer than usual six-man tag featured bout this week that marked the end of a few involved in the match.
