80s house show question
By Scott Keith on February 17, 2019
Hey Scott – I’m sure you have answered this question before but I don’t remember reading it. Why in the 80s at house shoes was the main event always in the middle of the card? Was it because of curfew concerns?
Also – was WWE contractually obligated to use local announcers and time keepers due to some sort of union law or something of that matter?
Two reasons:
1) Hulk is a busy guy, brother! He's got 500 shows per year to make, sometimes 4 per day, and he had a private jet waiting at the airport, dude, powered by the prayers and vitamins of all the Hulkamaniacs. He would use the 24 inch pythons, the largest arms in the world, to pick up the plane and throw it to the next city, with all the little Hulkamaniacs riding on the roof rack so he can carry them to the mountain, man!
2) In the days before WWF TV was ubiquitous, they needed a way to hype the next show at MSG or Philly or wherever. So the main event would go halfway through the show and end with Bruno getting stabbed in the kidneys by the Masked Motherfucker for the DQ, and then at the end of the show the ring announcer would announce that due to the controversial nature of the title match, they'd be back next month with a NO DISQUALIFICATION title match between Bruno and the Masked Motherfucker! Get your tickets at the box office right now, before Bruno goes into renal failure!
