Indies and Insanity: January 31, 2019

Since there wasn’t much blowback from the ALWF stuff, I’ll post the December holiday show recaps we did this weekend.

HOOPS REPORT: TNT’s NBA doubleheader has Bucks/Raptors, then Sixers/Warriors. ESPN’s Women’s Game of the Week is UConn/Louisville. ESPN2 presents Temple/Houston (with the Cougars trying to avenge their only loss so far), Arizona/Arizona State, and Gonzaga/BYU. ESPNU goes with Tulane/ECU, followed by Connecticut/UCF and the Deep Cut of UC Irvine/UCSB.

Also, ESPN is showing a 30-for-30 on Deion Sanders.

Here’s the highlights of the weekend in wrestling under the radar:

• CMLL’s Super Viernes is on Claro as always, and it’s time for the Universal Tournament. The tournament opens with two 8-way matches, and Match One is tonight — featuring Caristico, Dragon Lee, Barbario Cavernario, and more!
• Freelance heads to Chicago (assuming they’re not iced out) for Sleepless in Chicago tomorrow night! Isaias Velazquez has an open challenge for the big belt, while Gary Jay and Jake Parnell continue their rivalry in a four-way featuring Kobe Durst and Ari Azteca!
• Your show of the week is in Crown Point, Indiana, meaning Black Label Pro is in town for a show called Unplugged on Saturday! Kobe Durst defends the state title against Jake Parnell! Sadkampf (Dominic Garrini and Kevin Ku) face the WorkHorseman (Anthony Henry and JD Drake)! Rory Gulak faces rising star Daniel Makabe! Allie Kat goes after Savannah Stone! Gary Jay faces Tyler Bateman!
• But wait, there’s more! MLW is going Saturday night in the ECW Arena for Superfight! Low-Ki will defend the World Title against Tom Lawlor! Aerostar faces Rey Horus! The New Hart Foundation (Teddy and DBS Jr) will face the Lucha Bros! Brian Pillman and Tommy Dreamer meet in a mystery partner tag match! What a show!
• Let’s go up to Hamilton, Ontario, for A1 Super/Slam Sunday, and the big news is an IW World Championship match as Johnny Mundo defends against Ethan Page and MJF!! Plus, Kobe Durst, Sami Callihan, Rickey Shane Page, and more will be in action!
• RevPro is Live at the Cockpit on Sunday! We don’t have much info on the card at this point, but the featured bout is Chris Brookes taking on Shigehiro Irie!
