WWF Superstars – March 6th, 1993

By Brian Bayless on January 30, 2019

March 6, 1993

From the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, CA

Your hosts are Vince McMahon, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, and Jerry “The King” Lawler

This week we will hear the Mega Maniacs response to Money Inc’s challange for a Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania. In action this week are Razor Ramon, The Headshrinkers, Steiner Brothers, and Crush.

Razor Ramon vs. Brian Boyer

Razor drops Boyer with a right hand as Vince says this is the first time someone has wrestled with a toothpick behind his ear. Razor folds Boyer in half with an uranage then slaps him around for a bit. Razor then hits a super back suplex before the Razor’s Edge gets the win as Savage points out Razor does not have a spot at WrestleMania (2:03).

Thoughts: They had Razor destroy Boyer to make a case for him to get on the WrestleMania card, which is odd since he had a title defense at the last PPV so you’d think that would give him an opponent and feud by this point.

We see clips of Tatanka pinning Shawn Michaels in consecutive weeks to show how Tatanka has Shawn’s number heading into their match at WrestleMania.

Crush vs. Louie Spicolli

Spicolli slaps Crush across the face after an Irish whip sequence then rolls outside to brag about it but Crush drags him up to the apron and brings him in with a press slam. Vince plugs an article on the Crush/Doink feud in “WWF Magazine” then soon after that Crush uses the head vice for the win (2:20).

Thoughts: More hype for the Crush/Doink match at WrestleMania. And this feud has gotten a lot of play on TV as well.

We now see Jim Duggan at home. He talks about proudly representing the USA while part of the WWF but now everything has changed. Duggan talks about making a huge mistake by turning his back on Yokozuna and in his mind can still see the American flag crumpled up in the ring as he looked back from the stretcher and feels ashamed for letting his country down as he issues an apology. After that, Vince says that Duggan has nothing to be sorry about and most fans would agree but Lawler says he should be ashamed. The story now is whether or not Duggan will be able to return to the ring due to shame he feels about letting down his country. Some of the material in the promo was a bit much (he actually talked about letting down dead U.S. Soldiers) but Duggan delivered it well.

Gary Key & Davey Starr vs. The Headshrinkers w/ Afa

Lawler continues to talk about Duggan and how no one wants to see his face again. Vince confuses The Headshrinkers and incorrectly states its Samu starting off when it was Fatu. We then hear from Afa in an insert promo that features subtitles as he says The Headshrinkers are coming to WrestleMania to tear heads, not to wrestle like the Steiner Brothers. The Headshrinkers continue to destroy their opponents then Fatu puts Starr away with a splash (2:42).

Thoughts: The subtitle promo was a nice touch as this WrestleMania tag match features two teams that have impressed in their TV squash match wins.

Raymond Rougeau welcomes Bret Hart to the interview platform. Bret talks about being impressed by Yokozuna in how he won the Royal Rumble and how devastating he was in taking out Duggan. Bret even talks about having a pit in his stomach about facing Yokozuna but he has the dedication and determination to win and promises Yokozuna will respect him after the match, like every other challenger he has faced. Typical babyface promo where he refuses to back down and will fight with everything he has against his much larger opponent.

Brian West vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

Vince says we will hear from the Mega Maniacs after this match. Bigelow hits West with an avalanche in the corner. Bigelow then hits a suplex as the announcers talk about the Mega Maniacs/Money Inc. feud then Bigelow uses a diving headbutt for the win (1:12).

Thoughts: Bigelow is also without a match at WrestleMania so the announcers talked about other things in the promotion.

We now hear from the Mega Maniacs with Jimmy Hart. They all gloat and talk nonsense and for some reason joke about the steel and screws holding Beefcake’s face together and this insanity continues until they finally accept Money Inc’s challenge. These promos leading to this match have all been terrible. Plus, there was little doubt as to what their answer was going to be anyway. Yes, there is excitement for Hogan’s return among the TV crowds but good lord is the build to this nonsensical.

WrestleMania IX Report with Gene Okerlund. The show is now billed as having a double main event due to the addition of the Tag Team Title. This report is even interrupted to show Harvey Whippleman & Giant Gonzalez in the ring looking for The Undertaker.

Bill Marcetti &Dan Farren vs. Steiner Brothers

Farren is actually Beau Beverly under a mask. Scott works over Marcetti to start. Vince plugs the Steiner Brothers feature in “WWF Magazine” as the Steiner Brothers stay in control of the match. Farren tags in and Scott catches him with a belly-to-belly suplex then hits the Frankensteiner for the win (2:14). After the match, Lawler draws a dog on the screen and says it looks like the Steiners mother.

Thoughts: Funny how they had to put one of the Beverly Brothers under a mask so he could take the finisher. Anyway, more hype for the Steiners vs. Headshrinkers at WrestleMania.

Next week in action are the Nasty Boys, Lex Luger, Tatanka, and Yokozuna. Plus, an interview from the Mega Maniacs, who promise a surprise for Money Inc.

Final Thoughts: The big news was the Mega Maniacs officially accepting Money Inc’s challenge at WrestleMania. The rest of the show was hyping the PPV, which is just over four weeks away.
