Indies and Insanity: January 24, 2019
By Andy PG on January 24, 2019
SPORTSBALL update: Your NBA on TNT twin-bill is Warriors at Wizards followed by T-Wolves at Lakers. Meanwhile, ESPN has a superpower clash in the women’s scene of Notre Dame at Tennessee, followed by the Pro Bowl Skills challenge and the X-Games. For all you men’s college hoops fans, we have a tripleheader on ESPN2: Tulsa at Cincinnati, Washington at Oregon, and Saint Mary’s at BYU. Deep cuts are on ESPNU, as we have Gardner-Webb facing Winthrop followed by Belmont taking on Murray State.
After the jump, we scout the scene this weekend:
And now, for all those who are hungrier than anyone ordering the Royal Rumble Burger — look it up — here’s the action for the weekend:
- As I write these words, Beyond is just hours away from starting their show in the Greektown section of Toronto. RJ City and Sonny Kiss meet for the Greektown Cup in the main event, while Puf makes his in-ring return after the horrible car accident he and his friends were in to take on Jock Samson.
- CMLL Super Viernes gets everyone back from Fantastica Mania, and to celebrate they load up the show! Atlantis/Caristico/Volador vs. Barbario/Gran/Ultimo (the Guerreros)! Soberano Jr vs. Templario! And LOS of Bestia/Terrible/Rush will go at it against Diamante Azul, Fenix, and Penta!
- I’ll be in Silver Spring tomorrow to catch the debut of Flying V Wrestling with their Fight or Flight show! The main event is the Ugly Ducklings facing Hallowicked and Frightmare, and the undercard includes an amazing juniors match as Logan Easton LaRoux faces DJ Z!
- AAW is back in Chicago on Saturday for the Final Stand, so named due to two talents having what is believed to be their last matches with the company. ACH has announced he will face AR Fox on the way out, but as of now no opponent has been named for Trevor Lee. In addition, the Heritage title is on the line as DJ Z defends against Myron Reed!
- WXW is crashing London on Saturday Night with a special Road to 16 Carat Gold show. They’re doing a pair of four-man tournaments to show how the big throwdown will look, but if one-night tourneys aren’t your thing, Absolute Andy defends the big gold against David Starr in the main event!
- If you’re in Florida and not really interested in the Royal Rumble, FIP has you covered on Sunday night with Everything Burns! Anthony Henry defends the FIP gold against Eddie Kingston in the main event! In addition, the SHINE ova title will be defended as Aja Perera faces Stormie Lee, and The End will defend the FIP Tag belts, but we’re not sure who against yet.
Your indie match of the week is a tribute to Sonjay Dutt, NOVA Pro’s former franchise player now scooped up by WWE. Here he is from WAY back in 2004 in a Falls Count Anywhere match against M-Dogg 20 (now known as Matt “Son of Havoc” Cross) where the loser leaves CZW!
Bring the insanity!
