Indies and Insanity: January 17, 2019

By Andy PG on January 17, 2019

Your basketball update: tonight’s NBA on TNT doubleheader is Sixers/Pacers, followed by Lakers/Thunder.

Meanwhile, your college odyssey: ESPN has South Carolina/Mississippi State for the Women’s Game of the Week, followed by Oregon/Arizona. ESPN2 has Stanford/Washington before cutting to the Australian Open. Deep cuts on ESPNU as their tripleheader is Tennessee State vs Tennessee Tech, Gardner-Webb against Radford, and BYU facing Pepperdine.

And after the jump, the indie roundup for the weekend.

Big weekend in wrestling, so let’s run it down:

  • CMLL Super Viernes is still suffering from Fantastica Mania in Japan taking most of their roster, but Rush is still in Mexico and will face Euforia in the main event. Underneath is Diamante Azul, El Valiente, and Niebla Roja facing Ephesto, Mephisto, and Gilbert el Boricua (better known as Mil Muertes).
  • PCW Ultra is having their anniversary show tomorrow in Wilmington, CA. The big belt is on the line as Shane Strickland defends against Brian Cage, while the women’s gold features Tessa Blanchard defending against Taya Valkyrie and, in tag action, it’s the Lucha Bros against Johnny Mundo and PJ Black. Plus, Mil Mascaras has a meet and greet!
  • PWG is back with Hand of Doom tomorrow in the Globe! Jeff Cobb defends the PWG title against Trevor Lee (but don’t expect a title change, as Lee is on his farewell tour), while Jonathan Gresham faces Robbie Eagles and the Rascalz face the Best Friends.
  • It’s a Saturday doubleheader in Brooklyn, opening with Shine 56! Alyssin Kay defends the Shine title against Ivelisse, Jordynne Grace and LuFisto go no-holds-barred, and the Twisted Sisterz defend the tag titles against Gabby Gilbert and Luscious Latasha! And that’s just warmup, because…
  • …the second half is Evolve 119! JD Drake defends the WWN title against Eddie Kingston, Darby Allin faces Fabian Aichner, and in a huge main event, Austin Theory and Josh Briggs battle AR Fox and Johnny Gargano!
  • WXW will go at it Saturday night with Back to the Roots XVIII in Oberhausen! Absolute Andy defends the big title against Ilja Dragunov, while Timothy Thatcher faces David Starr and in a big one, Toni Storm faces Melanie Gray where the winner is WXW women’s champ… and the loser is gone!
  • PWX is in Concord, NC, this weekend, and it’s time for the X16 tournament! Slim J! Harlem Bravado! Andrew Everett! Darius Lockhart! Jason Cade! Eddie Edwards! Alexander James! John Skyler! A huge sixteen-man tournament coming right at ya, with the first round Saturday and the back half Sunday!
  • Alpha-1 is in Oshawa, Ontario on Sunday for Buck Wild 2. Kobe Durst defends the big title against Justin Sane, while in the undercard it’s Ethan Page and Josh Alexander facing MJF’s handpicked team of Christian Casanova and PB Smooth!
  • Southern Underground Pro is in Nashville for I Am King! A regional women’s dream match goes down as Allie Kat faces Savanna Stone, while Brett Ison defends the Bonestorm title against… hoo boy… Nick F’N Gage!
  • And to top it off, Progress is in London for Chapter 83 (Remove Child Before Ironing)! The announced main event is CCK facing the Swords of Essex for the tag titles, but how about that undercard! Ridgeway/Irie, Angelico/Fleisch, and Thatcher/Dragunov all highlight a great night!

Here’s your Indie Match of the Week! Remember on 205 Live when Drew Gulak mentioned a guy named Wheeler Yuta as a future star? Well, as someone who’s seen Wheeler, I wholeheartedly agree. And if you haven’t seen him, check out his match in Beyond here against MJF!

Bring the insanity!
