WWF Wrestling Challenge – February 14th, 1993

By Brian Bayless on January 15, 2019

February 14, 1993

From the Fresno Convention Center in Fresno, CA

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

This week’s featured match us Typhoon vs. Razor Ramon. Also in action are Bam Bam Bigelow, Doink the Clown, and the Nasty Boys.

Razor Ramon vs. Typhoon

Typhoon shoves down Razor as we see Mr. Perfect come out and watch from the interview platform. Typhoon continues to overpower Razor until he gets poked in the eye. Razor chokes out Typhoon against the ropes then stomps away. We get more choking from Razor then he fires away in the corner. Typhoon hits an avalanche after reversing an Irish whip and follows with a slam. Typhoon hits another avalanche then tries for a splash but Razor rolls away then Razor drops a few elbows for the win (3:55) 1/4*. After the match, Razor sees Perfect then Perfect dares him to come up to the platform. Razor then grabs the mic and calls Perfect a “smurf” and if he wants to take a look then come down to the ring. Perfect heads down as Razor tells him to step forward. They face off then Razor cheap shots him with the microphone. Razor then rams a chair into Perfect’s ribs and punches away but Perfect fights back. Perfect takes Razor down in the aisle as a few officials try to break this up but they fight all the way up the aisle.

Thoughts: The match was shit and the finish was too but this was all about amping up the Razor/Perfect feud, which should be wrapping up shortly since Perfect is facing Lex Luger at WrestleMania.

An ad for WrestleMania IX airs.

Nasty Boys vs. Brian West & Dave Starr

Sags beats on Starr then hits a reverse neckbreaker. The Nasty Boys use the Pit Stop as the announcers talk about the interview with Brutus Beefcake coming up later in the show. West tags and the Nasty Boys beat him down until they put him away with the running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo (2:17).

Thoughts: Funny how they did not mention the Nasty Boys being #1 contenders for the Tag Team Titles then plugged an interview with Beefcake later on in the show.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. This recapped the Jim Duggan/Yokozuna segment from last week’s “Superstars.”

The announcers, with Heenan showing off his “All-American Wrestling” jacket, talk about Duggan.

Bobby Young vs. Doink the Clown

Doink takes down Young a few times as the announcers talk about the Doink/Crush feud. Doink then hits a belly-to-belly suplex then slaps Young around on the back of the head while laughing. The announcers plug a “WWF Magazine” article on Crush/Doink then Doink uses the stump puller for the win (1:51).

Thoughts: Doink gets another win and really is impressing in the ring.

WrestleMania IX Report airs.

Buddy Wayne vs. Bam Bam Bigelow

The announcers talk about Bigelow having matches with Bret Hart for the title coming up soon and if he wins could face Yokozuna at WrestleMania. Bigelow hits a standing dropkick then fires away. He then works a chinlock before hitting a press slam and finishes Wayne off with a diving headbutt (1:40).

Thoughts: I did like how they plugged Bigelow getting title shots at the house shows and how he could win and face Yokozuna at WrestleMania. Bigelow looked quicker here than he did at the last set of tapings.

The Beefcake interview from “Superstars” is shown.

Clips of Giant Gonzalez beating down Undertaker at the Royal Rumble.

The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Brian Boyer

Undertaker catches Boyer with a big boot then a hook kick as the announcers talk about the Undertaker/Gonzalez match coming up at WrestleMania. Undertaker then hits a chokeslam before using the Tombstone for the win (1:37). After the match, Undertaker stuffs Boyer inside of a bodybag.

Thoughts: A win for the Undertaker as his match against Giant Gonzalez at WrestleMania is getting a lot of TV hype.

Next week in action are Crush, Giant Gonzalez, and the Steiner Brothers. Plus, Lex Luger vs. Virgil and the featured match of High Energy vs. Money Inc. for the Tag Team Titles. We hear promos from both teams to close out the show.

Final Thoughts: The featured match was the only real exclusive here and the action itself sucked but at the least the brawl afterwards was better. Beyond that we are starting to get more matches announced for WrestleMania as the hype towards the PPV continues.
