Indies and Insanity: January 3, 2019

For those who are basketball fans, your NBA/TNT doubleheader is Raptors/Spurs followed by Rockets/Warriors. Meanwhile, college hoops has an interesting doubleheader of its own as unbeaten Michigan hosts Penn State, followed by Saint Mary’s at San Francisco (don’t laugh; these two teams could steal a bid).

Now, your traditional Thursday night indie highlights:

Let’s look at the best shows out there outside of the national promotions!

• CMLL returns to Arena Mexico on Friday night for their dose of Super Viernes. The Nuevo Generacion Dinamitas will defend the national Trios title against Angel de Oro, Nieblo Roja, and Soberano Jr., but the other big match is Barbaro Cavernario taking on Dragon Lee one on one!
• If you’re in Clarksville, Tennessee, Saturday presents an NWA show! Nick Aldis will defend the Ten Pounds of Gold against James Storm, Willie Mack and Matt Cross face off for the National title, and — because wrestling is stupid and wonderful — David Arquette is putting his hair on the line in a match.
• Warrior Wrestling is running their third show in Chicago on Saturday night. Jordynne Grace defends her newly won Progress women’s title (yeah, the Unboxing had some wild results) against Kylie Rae, while your dream match pits Eddie Edwards against Austin Aries!
• Saturday and Sunday sees RPW Live at the Cockpit! All we know for sure is that they’re doing an 8-woman Queen of the Ring tournament (quarterfinals on Saturday, semis/finals on Sunday)… oh, and also Sunday, PAC faces Zack Sabre Jr, who will be “fresh” off his match at WrestleKingdom!
• Glory Pro hits up Collinsville, IN on Sunday afternoon for Above the Law. Curt Stallion puts the main gold on the line in the main event against Bandido! The tag belts will be defended in a TLC match! Plus, Eddie Kingston, AJ Gray, Jake Parnell, and more!
