WWF Wrestling Challenge – January 10th, 1993

In action this week are the Nasty Boys, Yokozuna, Marty Jannetty, and Crush.

Nasty Boys vs. Dave Sigfrids & Spike Jones

The Nasty Boys beat on Sigfrids and give him the Pit Stop. They stay in control then put him away with a running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo (3:39).

Thoughts: Not too much talk about the Nasty Boys being #1 contenders for the Tag Team Titles since Money Inc. has been announced for the Royal Rumble match.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. Same as the Update segment from Superstars that showed Owen Hart getting attacked by Razor Ramon during his interview on “Mania.”

Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Chad Miller

Heenan talks about not being invited to RAW as Yokozuna destroys Miller. He flattens Miller with a belly-to-belly suplex then hits an avalanche before using the Bonzai Drop for the win (2:33).

Thoughts: Yokozuna was once again put over as a threat to win the Rumble due to his size while they continued to play up the angle of Heenan being out of a job now that “Prime Time Wrestling” has ended as Heenan is not part of RAW.

We see a clip from last week’s “Superstars” where Crush puts his hands on Doink for teasing kids.

Crush vs. Tom Stone

Crush overpowers Stone with ease while Heenan says the clown is hilarious. Crush stays in control then puts Stone away with a head vice (2:32).

Thoughts: They teased a Crush/clown feud here as Crush needs someone to feud with.

We see the interview from this week’s “Superstars” where the clown revealed his name as Doink.

Marty Jannetty vs. Tom Bennett

Marty works over Bennett as Gorilla hypes up this year’s Royal Rumble as possibly being the greatest in history. Heenan is convinced that Marty greased Jack Tunney’s palms to get this title shot as the announcers talk about Sherri then Marty hits Bennett with the Rocker Dropper before using a flying fist drop for the win (2:37).

Thoughts: The Shawn/Marty match now has an added wrinkle over where Sherri’s allegiance lays.

Heenan on Narcissus coming to the WWF.

Royal Rumble Report is shown. Same as we saw on “Superstars.”

The Headshrinkers w/ Afa vs. Scott Colton & Carl Almont

Gorilla wants Heenan to reveal The Narcissus’s identity but does not get an answer. The announcers talk about Monday Night RAW and how the Headshrinkers will be part of the show. The Headshrinkers rough up their opponents as the announcers go back to talking about the Rumble then Fatu puts Almont away with a top rope splash (2:42).

Thoughts: This was a chance to hype up RAW and the Narcissus’s debut.

Next week in action are The Undertaker, Razor Ramon, and Ric Flair. Plus, an interview with Mr. Perfect.

Final Thoughts: Once again we see that Challenge is relegated to being a secondary show and with a new live show in RAW in the fold it will be behind both RAW and Superstars in terms of importance. The next few weeks will continue to build up to the PPV.
