Hogan/Sting at Starccade 97

Was listening to Eric Bischoffs podcast about the match and he went into detail about how dissappointed he and Hogan was at the shape Sting showed up in saying he lacked enthusiasm for the match along with other things including the infamous "not tanned" remark. Alot of rumors have ran the circles over the years regarding Sting on that day including him reportedly showing up drunk to the event. Has it ever been elaborated on with what exactly was going on with Sting at the time?
I've never specifically heard he was drunk at the time of the match, except for the one guy who e-mailed me last week to ask about that, but he has admitted to doing a lot of stupid stuff during that general time period, ie. drugs. But then so was everyone else. Bischoff's specific criticisms were more that Sting (who wrestled in white facepaint and a full bodysuit) would somehow be ruining the match by showing up in not-perfect ring shape and without a tan. Which is ridiculous on its face since the entire point of the character is that he was sitting in the rafters for 18 months anyway! Now granted, literally once he made his ring entrance, all the magic was gone instantly and you could say "OK, this experiment has clearly failed" but you couldn't know that at the time and there was no reason not to put him over before the match happened.
