December 19, 1992
From the Ervin J. Nutter Center in Dayton, OH
Your hosts are Vince McMahon, Bobby Heenan, and Jerry “The King” Lawler
This week, we will learn of the first six competitors signed for the Royal Rumble match. Also, an interview with two of Santa’s helpers. In action are Yokozuna, Money Inc., and Big Bossman
Crush vs. Dark Destiny
Destiny is under a mask wearing a body suit but I have no idea who was under the mask. Crush takes control early as Heenan said he heard through the grapevine that you do not want to make Crush angry. Destiny lands a few shots but Crush catches him and hits a slam. Crush is in an insert promo wishing us a Merry Christmas in his Hawaiian dialect then press slams Destiny back inside as Destiny ends up rolling out of the opposite side of the ring. Lawler said someone will come along and wipe the smile off of Crush’s face as Crush uses the head vice for the win (2:51).
Thoughts: Since they randomly mentioned that you do not want to get Crush mad and that someone will come along and wipe the smile off of his face we should expect a feud for Crush very soon.
WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We see last week’s interview with Bret Hart with Razor Ramon & Ric Flair interrupting and attacking Bret until Mr. Perfect made the save. We then hear from Flair & Razor as they vow to take away Bret’s title.
Kamala w/ Harvey Whippleman & Kimchee vs. Bill Koby
Kimchee shoves Kamala and yells orders. Kamala beats on Koby as the announcers once again talk about Kamala not being the same after losing the Coffin Match at the Survivor Series. Kamala stays in control then hits a splash for the win (1:54).
Thoughts: They are putting over Kamala as being more aggressive since losing the Coffin Match and we see Whippleman & Kimchee becoming abusive towards him, which is all setting up for a face turn.
Reverend Slick tells us if life has us down then perk up and give this Christmas season.
Big Bossman vs. Barry Hardy
The clown is back again this week as he is tying a string to the bottom of the guardrail. Bossman drops Hardy with a back elbow smash as Vince wonders if Bossman will be part of the Rumble match. Heenan tells us that his sources tell him that people from all over the world are trying to enter the Rumble match. Bossman stays in control then catches Hardy with a sidewalk slam for the win (1:41). The clown has tied the string to the other side of the barrier then Bossman trips and fails as he runs backstage while the clown laughs. Heenan jokes that it was liking taking a trip to Cobb County as Vince says that the clown is not funny at all.
Thoughts: The focus was on the clown and not Bossman, who is coming off the win against Nailz at SummerSlam. It was reported that Bossman would be taking time off and its interesting to see what happens to him in the new year.
Richard Myers vs. Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji
Yokozuna skies Myers with a German suplex as Vince wants to know if anyone could throw the 500 lbs Yokozuna over the top rope if he entered the Rumble match. Yokozuna peppers Myers with chops in the corner and follows with an avalance before the middle rope sit-down splash gets the win (1:32).
Thoughts: They all but said Yokozuna would be in the Rumble match with Vince planting the seeds for the story of him being too big to eliminate.
An ad for the Royal Rumble airs.
Joe Beavens welcomes Santa’s Helpers to the interview platform. The helpers are The Bushwhackers dressed in Santa costumes. We get bad comedy and it ends with Beavens getting licked.
Kerry Davis vs. Damien Demento
Demento sucker punches Davis then responds to internal stimuli. We hear from Demento in an insert promo as he talks about extreme brutality then he puts Davis away with a knee drop after turning his knee brace around (2:03).
Thoughts: The Demento gimmick is a bust even with the new element of hearing voices. However, Lawler was on commentary telling Vince that he is royalty and can be asked about anything involving the Royal Rumble.
Royal Rumble Report with Gene Okerlund. We find out that Ted DiBiase, Tatanka, Yokozuna, Bob Backlund, The Berzerker, and The Undertaker are the first six entrants announced for the Rumble match.
After the Rumble report, we cut to the announcers as Lawler says he was thinking and knows he can beat all 29 guys in the Rumble match then proclaims that he will be in the match because no one will ask him and that a king is higher ranked than a president like Jack Tunney. Seems like we now have the 7th Rumble entrant.
Laverne McGill & Chris Hahn vs. Money Inc. w/ Jimmy Hart
Vince tells us about Hart being bad about keeping his teams together and wants to know why IRS is not signed for the Rumble match. The clown is back as Money Inc. works McGill over. We hear from the Nasty Boys as they talk winning the Tag Team Titles and having Jimmy Hart’s head on a silver platter as their Christmas wishes. Money Inc. now beats on Hahn then DiBiase puts him away with the Million Dollar Dream as the clown cheers (2:30).
Thoughts: More hype for the Tag Team Title feud which will not result in a match at the PPV since DiBiase was announced for the Rumble match. And they mentioned Hart’s history of failing to keep his teams together to use as another storyline.
Next week in action are The Headshrinkers, Tatanka, and Razor Ramon. Plus, more stars announced for the Rumble match. The show ends with all of the babyface wrestlers wishing us a Merry Christmas.
Final Thoughts: The big news here was finding out about the first batch of Rumble entrants. They also planted a few seeds for upcoming storylines and feuds but for now the focus is on the PPV.
