WWF Prime Time Wrestling – December 7th, 1992
By Brian Bayless on December 11, 2018
December 7, 1992
Vince McMahon is your host. Panelists include: Hillbilly Jim, Sgt. Slaughter, and Bobby Heenan. There is a white sheet over the fourth panelist chair then after crapping all over Jim’s rendition of “Blue Christmas” Heenan says he has the real king to bring out and introduces the man replacing Mr. Perfect and that is Jerry Lawler, in his WWF debut. A shock for most fans to see Lawler in the WWF but if you were aware of the company’s partnership with the USWA then it might have been less surprising.
On the set, Jim tries to tell Lawler that everyone is treated equal but Lawler laughs and says he is royalty and more important.
Repo Man vs. Bob Backlund
This took place at the 10/28 “Wrestling Challenge” tapings in Louisville, KY. Sean Mooney and Lord Alfred Hayes are the commentators for this match. Repo Man takes Backlund down with a waist lock but Backlund quickly reverses as the announcers discuss whether or not Backlund can reach the top at 43 years of age. Repo Man reaches the ropes then charges at Backlund and gets taken down each time. We now excite the crowd with a test-of-strength then Repo Man cuts off Backlund before he could fully escape. Repo Man now chokes out Backlund in the corner but whiffs on a clothesline then Backlund uses a bridging reverse rollup for the win (5:20) DUD.
Thoughts: Dreadfully show action as Backlund’s dated style is not what the promotion needs. And the Repo Man is featured less on TV and being jobbed out. No idea what value Backlund is supposed to have in this role.
Slick promo from this week’s syndicated TV.
Virgil defeats Mike Kramer from the 12/6 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
WWF Update from the 12/5 edition of “Superstars.” that talked about Bret Hart’s title reign and we saw Ric Flair tell us he will be champion once again.
Back to the panel as Lawler is upset over not receiving royal treatment and is upset over being compared to someone like Bret Hart. Vince then tells us that Mr. Perfect is now live via satellite in Minnesota. Perfect smiles as he says the Survivor Series went perfectly while Heenan cannot even look at Perfect. Lawler claims that Perfect has fear in his eyes over stabbing Heenan in the back but Perfect compares Lawler to someone in an Imperial Margarine commercial. Jim appreciates Perfect for being a standup guy but Heenan says Perfect is scum. Perfect yells at Heenan after being told to shut up then tells Heenan to do something about it if he’s upset.
Kamala defeats Buck Zumhoffe from the 12/5 edition of “Superstars.”
The panel now talks about Kamala as Heenan & Lawler claim Kamala needs to be whipped into shape then calls out Slaughter for making people do pushups when Slaughter disagreed.
Marty Jannetty defeats Louie Spicolli 12/6 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
We go back to the panel as Lawler said that Shwan had to get rid of the dead weight and finally dumped Marty.
A clip of the Coliseum Home Video World Tour ’92 Video then Jim tells us about several other new releases.
Jim Duggan defeats Dusty Wolfe from the 12/5 edition of “Superstars.”
The Headshrinkers defeat George Anderson & Kevin Kruger from the 11/28 edition of “Superstars”
Heenan now introduces us to Razor Ramon, live via satellite in Miami, FL. Razor says that Perfect has to prove that he is in fact perfect and does not think he can before threatening to slap the silly grin off of Vince’s face. Razor then says he is better than Perfect in every way. Razor was excellent once again on the mic.
Beverly Brothers & The Genius vs. High Energy & Max Moon
This took place at the 11/24 “Superstars” tapings in Dayton, OH. Gorilla and Lord Alfred are the commentators here. Gorilla notes how Moon is without his confetti. Owen and Beau start off the match and go back-and-forth. Beau catches Owen with a backbreaker and follows with a slam but Owen fights back then tags out to Moon, who works a headlock on the mat. Moon uses a headscissors takedown before going back to the headlock. Moon & High Energy clear the ring now as the crowd is getting into this match, which has been all action to start. The match settles down now with Koko mocking Blake before getting beaten down. Koko tries a comeback and rolls up Blake for two. Koko hits a dropkick but Genius distracts the ref and that allows Beau the chance to hit Koko with a double axe handle. The Beverly Brothers cut the ring in half and Genius even tags in and throws a few punches too. The crowd gets behind Koko and he finally escapes and tags out as Owen runs wild. Moon is in now and rams Genius into the corner before putting him away with a flying body press (9:45) **3/4.
Thoughts: Fun match with Owen and Moon really standing out. This was also the final appearance of The Genius on WWF TV as he was let go after the December 12th house show in Los Angeles along with others. according to The Genius himself. Moon was also one of those fired at that LA show then came back the beginning of the year and was let go again in February.
Skinner vs. Jim Powers
This took place at the 10/27 “Superstars” tapings in Terre Haute, IN. Gorilla says that Powers uses ICOPRO. The match starts off on the mat as Skinner uses a headscissors. Powers escapes and takes control with a headlock but Skinner breaks out of that and roughs up Powers. Skinner taunts the crowd after hitting a swinging neckbreaker and covers for two. Skinner tosses Powers into the corner but misses a charge and rams his shoulder into the post. Powers fires away and uses a dropkick for a nearfall. Skinner now begs for mercy but it was a trap to pull Powers into the corner. Skinner avoids a corner charge and hits an inverted DDT for the win (5:04) *.
Thoughts: A bland match is Skinner seems to be a fixture on Prime Time now as he beats TV enhancement talent and loses to midcard talent. Not much of a future in that role.
Back in the studio as the panel talks about what could happen when The Undertaker and Nailz face off before we see Nailz’s interview from “Superstars.” After that the panel talks about this feud with Heenan claiming that Nailz is innocent of all crimes while Lawler tells Heenan he is better off without Perfect.
Now, we have both Razor and Perfect live as Razor calls Perfect a “little smurf.” Razor then eggs on Perfect and wants to know what will happen when they face off as Heenan yells about teaching Perfect all of his smart-ass replies.
Bam Bam Bigelow vs. El Matador
This match took place at the 11/23 “Wrestling Challenge” tapings in Erie, PA. Bigelow misses a charge in the corner then Matador works the arm. Bigelow presses Matador above his head but Matador gets out and lands on top of Bigelow for a two count. Matador goes back to the arm then tries a sunset flip but that is blocked with a sit-down splashed. Bigelow hammers away before using a chinlock. Matador escapes and fires away then avoids another charge in the corner and comes back with a clothesline from the middle rope that gets two. Matador now tries a reverse rollup but Bigelow blocks that and hits a splash for the win (6:28) *1/2.
Thoughts: Nothing special and having Matador take most of the match and losing after getting a reverse rollup blocked is not going to get anyone over. I figured they’d give Bigelow a more decisive victory.
An ad for WrestleMania IX taking place at Caesars Palace.
Shawn Michaels defeats John Paul in a match from the 12/5 edition of “Superstars.”
The panel now talks about who will defeat Shawn to become the Intercontinental Champion. They put over Shawn’s ability and arrogance as Lawler once again says that Marty was the dead weight of The Rockers.
Crush defeats Brian Costello 12/6 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”
Next week, we will find out the Royal Rumble main event. Also, we will have Shawn and Marty side-by-side for an interview. We then hear a crash as Jameson brings food for Lawler and runs away before getting his ass kicked in the typical Jameson crappy comedy segment.
Final Thoughts: The big news was Jerry Lawler being part of the WWF. Lawler said he joined when Vince agreed to let him continue with Memphis and not be on the road full-time with the WWF. The six-man was fun as was the Razor and Perfect interviews but the rest forgettable.
