WWF Wrestling Challenge – December 6th, 1992
By Brian Bayless on December 10, 2018
December 6, 1992
From the Louisville Gardens in Louisville, KY
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
The show opens with clips of Bret Hart’s recent title defenses. After that we see the Okerlund/Flair restaurant interview that we saw on “Superstars.”
In action this week are Marty Jannetty, Crush, The Headshrinkers, and Bam Bam Bigelow.
Crush vs. Kevin Kruger
Crush grounds Kruger to start. Kruger tries a sleeper but Crush breaks that up with a side slam. Kruger rakes eyes and lands some punches but fails on a slam attempt and ends up getting caught with a press slam before Crush uses a head vice for the win (2:06).
Thoughts: They are keeping Crush on TV looking impressive in squash match wins until they can find him a feud.
An ad for WrestleMania IX taking place at Caesars Palace.
Dan Robbins & John Lars vs. The Headshrinkers w/ Afa
The Headshrinkers beat on Lars as we see the clown in the stands. The Headshrinkers now headbutt themselves before destroying Robbins until Samu uses a STF for the win (2:48).
Thoughts: We see this clown once again as the Headshrinkers continue to impress in their squash match wins.
We get a replay of Bam Bam Bigelow defeating Jerry Fox from the 11/28 edition of “Superstars” but with Gorilla and Heenan on commentary here.
The Slick promo from this week’s “Superstars” airs
Virgil vs. Mike Kramer
Virgil works over Kramer then we hear from him in an insert promo as he puts over Bret Hart for being a great champion and that he is with him all the way. Heenan says that Bret is liable to get knocked off by someone due to his schedule and says that person will be Ric Flair as Virgil puts Kramer away with a Russian leg sweep (1:53).
Thoughts: Bret has Virgil’s endorsement as champ, which I’m sure means a lot. They also said that Virgil was friends with Slick on commentary in a way that hinted they could be matched up together now that Slick is returning.
The Mr. Perfect introductory vignettes from 1988 air again on this show, just like Superstars.
Jim Brunzell vs. Damien Demento
Brunzell takes Demento over with a sunset flip that gets two. We then hear from Demento in an insert promo as he tells his opponents they will suffer pain as he is now using some sort of accent which Heenan described as “Transylvanian” and I have to agree. Demento avoids a dropkick and follows with a neckbreaker before moving his knee pad around and using a knee drop for the win (1:55).
Thoughts: Demento switched to a new shitty accent and sold a lot for the vet Brunzell but this gimmick is rapidly becoming a lost cause.
Marty Jannetty vs. Spike Jones
The announcers talk about Marty defying the odds and coming back to the WWF for revenge against Shawn Michaels. Marty fires away in the corner then works the arm. We hear from Marty in an insert promo telling Shawn he is coming to kick his butt then Marty puts Jones away with a flying fist drop (2:27).
Thoughts: More hype for the Shawn/Marty feud as Marty has been bringing the intensity the past few weeks.
“The Model” Rick Martel vs. Gary Jackson
The clown is now in the aisle. Martel grounds Jackson and drives a knee into his side. Martel then hits a backbreaker before using a Boston Crab for the win (2:22). The camera then shows the clown go up the aisle.
Thoughts: More focus on the clown as Martel has nothing going on after losing to Tatanka at Survivor Series.
In action next week are Tatanka, Shawn Michaels, and Yokozuna.
Final Thoughts: Not much new here except Demento’s accent. The next several weeks will be spent on hyping the Rumble then after that its WrestleMania IX in Las Vegas.
