By Brian Bayless on December 10, 2018
December 5, 1992
From the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, IN
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan
In action this week are Shawn Michaels, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Yokozuna, and Kamala plus an interview with Nailz.
High Energy vs. Barry Horowitz & WT Jones
Owen dropkicks Horowitz after an Irish whip sequence then works the arm. High Energy then works over Jones as Heenan makes fun of Koko’s pants. Vince runs down the other wrestlers that will be on the show and after that High Energy puts Jones away after Owen had him lifted up while Koko hits a missile dropkick (2:28).
Thoughts: Not much discussed here on commentary other than Heenan continuing to rant about Mr. Perfect.
An ad for WrestleMania IX airs.
Yokozuna w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Mark Morgan
Vince tells us that families around the world are planning their vacation for WrestleMania IX. Morgan charges and is met with a double chop to the throat. Yokozuna destroys Morgan and shoves him down after an avalanche before using a sit-down splash from the middle rope for the win (2:19).
Thoughts: Another impressive win for Yokozuna as he continues to get built up for a more prominent role.
Max Moon vs. Brian Costello
Moon takes down Costello a few times before catching him with a slam. We see the clown in the audience as he hands a balloon animal to a girl while the announcers try to guess his identity. We hear from Moon in an insert promo as he is focused on “launching his opponents into orbit.” Moon stays in control then hits a crossbody for the win as he saw the clown spray silly string at the fans (2:36).
Thoughts: Moon’s promo was really corny and dumb but he is just a lower card character anyway and the main focus was the antics of the clown in the crowd.
WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We see Okerlund in an empty arena that will be part of a show where Bret Hart will defend his title. Okerlund then talks about Bret’s career and the amount of title defenses he has had over the past two weeks as we see clips of them while they put over Bret as the hardest working champion. Next, we see Okerlund at a restaurant with Ric Flair that was filmed earlier this week. Flair said he is obsessed with greatness and being #1 and that to be #1 you need the World Heavyweight Title. Flair then said he will deal with Mr. Perfect when the time is right and says that Bret beat him in a nothing country because he “stubbed his toe” but will regain the title. They are setting up for a rematch between Flair and Bret with Flair moving on to feud with Perfect once complete.
Kamala w/ Harvey Whippleman & Kimchee vs. Buck Zumhoffe
Whippleman made fun of Howard Finkle’s bald head and gave him some additional verbal abuse. Vince says that Whippleman’s abuse of Kamala after the Survivor Series was uncalled for as Heenan says you need to light a fire and put people in their place to get results. Kamala beats on Zumhoffe as we hear from Whippleman with Kimchee in an insert promo denying that Kamala is getting soft and as long as Kamala does what they say their will not be any problems. Kamala then hits a splash and finally turns Zumhoffe over on his back for the win (1:52).
Thoughts: The story remains that Whippleman & Kimchee are going to abuse Kamala if he tries to get out of line.
Another ad for WrestleMania IX
Reverend Slick once again tells us about how one year ago he got slammed and quit as a manager in order to reflect on his life and decided he know wants to return to glory in the WWF.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Dale Wolfe
The clown is in the aisle acting like a mime. Duggan gets the crowd behind him then grabs a waistlock. Duggan then twirls Wolfe around before hitting a slam then uses the Three Point Stance for the win (1:51). After the match we see the clown strut up the aisle.
Thoughts: More focus on the clown here as Duggan has been used sparingly as a performer on TV.
Okerlund now welcomes Nailz to the interview platform. Okerlund asks Nailz about meeting The Undertaker. Nailz says he is an innocent man put in prison for crimes he did not do and was not born a criminal but rather made into one due to years of systematic abuse. Nailz then calls out Undertaker for being one of the toughest men in the WWF but that Undertaker has never been in a prison fight or in solitary confinement. Nailz ends this by saying he will be Undertaker’s judge, jury, and executioner. After losing at Survivor Series Nailz lost just about all mystique as a performer and the fans seem to have lost interest.
Tatanka vs. Louie Spicolli
Tatanka beats on Spicolli as Vince puts him over as a proponent of ICOPRO. Tatanka uses a vertical suplex then hits a flying chop before the Samoan drop gets the win (2:17).
Thoughts: Tatanka continues to get pushed with his undefeated streak and as someone who uses ICOPRO to attain his physique.
Vince plugs the WWF Merchandise catalog and says its part of every edition of “WWF Magazine.”
Shawn Michaels vs. John Paul
Shawn talks trash to Paul and gets shoved but fights back. Shawn dropkicks Paul and after that stretches him out on the mat as the announcers talk about the Shawn/Marty Jannetty feud. Paul whips Shawn into the corner but misses a charge in the corner. Shawn then hits a flying clothesline and follows with the super kick before the teardrop suplex gets the win (1:54).
Thoughts: Fun squash match here as Shawn was just a complete dick throughout the match.
We see clips from the original Mr. Perfect introductory vignette promos that originally aired back in 1988.
Next week in action are Marty Jannetty, Bam Bam Bigelow, and The Undertaker. Plus, an interview with Bret Hart and we will find out the main event at the Royal Rumble.
Final Thoughts: They are setting up for a Flair vs. Bret rematch and going with the Nailz/Undertaker feud now but next week we will find out the Royal Rumble main event and start to build towards the PPV.
