WWF Wrestling Challenge – November 8th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on November 28, 2018

November 8, 1992

From the Agridome in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

We start off with the end of Kamala vs. Tatanka from last week’s “Prime Time Wrestling” when Paul Bearer wheels out the coffin and The Undertaker pops up, sending Kamala through the crowd. After that we see Bearer & Undertaker in their workshop building a special coffin for Kamala.

This week’s featured match is one of the Beverly Brothers vs. Tatanka. Also in action are Marty Jannetty and The Headshrinkers plus an interview with Ric Flair & Razor Ramon.

Crush vs. Iron Mike Sharpe

Sharpe flexes his bicep and wants the crowd to take notice. Crush shoves Sharpe into the corner as Gorilla attributes Crush’s physique to ICOPRO. Crush breaks out of a full nelson with ease but Sharpe rakes the eyes and lands a few shots. Crush catches Sharpe with a backbreaker then hits a leg drop before the head vice gets the win (2:30).

Thoughts: Another match to put over Crush’s size and agility. They need to get the guy a feud.

Clips of last week’s tag title match.

Bill Jodoin & Brian Jewel vs. The Headshrinkers w/ Afa

The Headshrinkers scare off their opponents with bamboo sticks before attacking their opponents. The Headshrinkers stay in control and show off their agility and power. We hear from them with Afa in an insert promo as they warn the Natural Disasters to be careful then Samu uses a modified STF on Jewel for the win (2:57).

Thoughts: The Headshrinkers are impressive in the ring and have great chemistry as they’ve been wrestling for years prior as the Samoan Swat Team. A welcome addition to the struggling tag team division.

Clip of Marty Jannetty’s return as he came out from the crowd to attack Shawn Michaels.

Dale Wolfe vs. Marty Jannetty

Marty still has The Rockers theme and slightly modified the attire. Marty yells into the camera and tells Shawn that he is back. Wolfe attacks Marty from behind but Marty fights back. Heenan claims Marty was “second banana” to Shawn as Marty hits a pair of dropkicks. We hear from Marty in an insert promo saying he might get fined for last week but does not care and tells Sherri to step aside because he is a snow plow heading towards the “walking blizzard” that’s Shawn Michaels. Marty works the arm as Heenan says that everyone is jealous of Shawn then Marty hits a flying fist drop for the win (2:09).

Thoughts: I thought Marty’s promo was good. He showed a ton of fire and fans can buy into the feud easily over what happened at the beginning of the year when Marty went through the Barber Shop window even if they had Marty wrestle afterwards then try to say some of the matches took place prior to the incident but it was so short-lived it didn’t matter. If Marty had not had his legal issues then this feud would have happened sooner.

We hear from Bob Backlund as he tells the naysayers that he can return and be champion again. He then recalls coming into the WWF and wondered if he would be accepted back in 1977.

“The Model” Rick Martel vs. Kenny Johnson

Gorilla mentions the Martel vs. Tatanka match at Survivor Series as we once again see the clown in the stands. Martel is in an insert promo saying Tatanka gave him the feathers and calls him an “Indian giver” before promising victory at the Survivor Series. Heenan loved that promo. Martel works over Johnson then quickly puts him away with a Boston Crab (1:29).

Thoughts: Trying to hype up the Martel/Tatanka match with some casual racism.

The Ric Flair & Razor Ramon interview from 10/31 “Superstars” airs.

Survivor Series report with Gene Okerlund.

Blake Beverly w/ Beau Beverly & The Genius vs. Tatanka

Tatanka clotheslined Beau en route to the ring. Beau went to the locker room after that. Tatanka clotheslines Blake then hits a slam before another clothesline sends Blake over the top rope. Tatanka stays in control as Heenan claims he’s cheated since the bell rang. Blake finally takes control with a chinlock as The Genius orders the camera away. Tatanka escapes then no-sells a hard chop as Tatanka fires away. Blake then catches Tatanka with a powerslam but heads up top and misses a diving attack then Tatanka dances around and hits his chops before the Samoan drop gets the win (4:45) *3/4.

Thoughts: This match made Tatanka look strong as he was in control for a majority of the match. It had the opposite effect for the Beverly Brothers as they would begin to slide to the bottom of the tag division.

Bam Bam Bigelow is back with another message. He tells us if you play with fire you’re get burned then issues warning not to play with Bam Bam Bigelow, the Beast from the East. Good promo by Bigelow as he is a welcome return and given the nature of this promo seems to be returning as a heel.

In the Event Center, Gene Okerlund tells us that WWF Challenge is moving to 5pm on Saturdays in Boston.

Next week in action are the Natural Disasters, Yokozuna, Razor Ramon, and the featured match of Big Bossman vs. Shawn Michaels as we close out the show with comments from both men.

Final Thoughts: The featured match was a Tatanka showcase as the rest of the show went over the new midcard feuds, which are getting most of the play on TV and we will learn why very soon.
