WWF Superstars of Wrestling – November 7th, 1992

November 7, 1992
From the Saskatchewan Center in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect
This week, Money Inc. defends the Tag Team Titles against High Energy. Also in action are The Headshrinkers and the debut of Damian Demento.
Max Moon vs. Louie Spicolli
Moon works over Spicolli to start as Vince says that Moon has a feature in “WWF Magazine.” Moon takes Spicolli down with a side headlock after a nifty reversal sequence then soon after that hits the rolling fireman’s carry slam and follows with a flying bodypress for the win (1:27).
Thoughts: Decent action here as Spicolli keeps impressing with each enhancement role and they give him more to do in these matches than before. Moon had another good showing but the flying body press finisher is nowhere near as cool as the rolling fireman’s carry slam.
Replay of tag title situation from last week.
The Headshrinkers w/ Afa vs. Joey Maggs & Brian Costello
This is the syndicated TV debut of The Headshrinkers. Vince blames them for costing Natural Disasters the Tag Team Titles. The Headshrinkers immediately beat down their opponents. Samu hits Maggs with a rolling DDT then catches Costello with a thrust kick. We then hear from Afa & The Headshrinkers in an insert promo saying they do not feel pain but dish out pain as Perfect calls them “primitive animals.” Fatu no-sells a move by Costello then the Headshrinkers use some double team stuff until Fatu hits a splash off of the top rope for the win (2:04). After the match, the Headshrinkers toss their opponents out of the ring.
Thoughts: Good stuff here and The Headshrinkers welcome addition to the struggling Tag Team Division. They are primed for a feud against the Natural Disasters.
Okerlund is in the Event Center as Sean Mooney was legitimately on his honeymoon as you might have remembered got interrupted on the 10/26 “Prime Time Wrestling” show. We learn of “Saturday Night’s Main Event” returning on 11/14 at 9pm EST on Fox.
Another vignette from Bam Bam Bigelow hyping his return.
Virgil vs. Jim Peterson
Virgil grabs a headlock after a shoving match then Vince plugs ICOPRO. Virgil works a hammerlock then takes Peterson down with a drop toehold. Virgil is then shown in an insert promo saying the man he admired the most as a kid was Bob Backlund and cannot wait to see him back. I bet that was the case. We see the same clown from last week who is now holding a giant mallet while Vince puts over Backlund then Virgil uses a side Russian leg sweep for the win (2:00). Vince then asks Perfect if he knows anything about the clown.
Thoughts: They acknowledged the clown more this week as its clear he is going to be pushed going forward, unlike poor Virgil who improved 1.5 years too late.
WWF Update with Lord Alfred Hayes. This focuses on last week’s return of Marty Jannetty as he attacked Shawn before his match. Marty also hit Sherri with a mirror after Shawn shoved Sherri in front of him. They play this up as Marty out for revenge after the Barber Shop window incident.
The Bret Hart tribute video is shown.
Damien Demento vs. Steve May
Demento was Northeast independent wrestler Mondo Kleen. Vince says that Bret Hart will be on “Prime Time Wrestling” this week. Vince then talks about Flair’s inner ear problem but Perfect said he never heard that and would be the first to know about any injury. Demento beats on May then we hear from him in an insert promo calling himself a creation of our minds. Man, was that a terrible promo or what. His New York accent was heavy and he pronounced his name “DOH-mento.” Demento hits a slam as Vince keeps goading Mr. Perfect about Flair and the Survivor Series then Demento uses a double knee drop for the win (2:29).
Thoughts: Interesting that we saw Perfect claim to have no idea about Flair’s injury and says since he never heard about it then it has to be false. Demento’s look was a bit similar to Shango’s and more to the Missing Link’s. His ring work was not good. The PW Torch’s Wade Keller reported that Demento was actually a candidate to team with Animal as one-half of the LoD. He came off as a guy trying to play a pro wrestler to borrow a phrase from Dave Meltzer.
An ad for SNME airs.
Big Bossman is in the ring with Joe Blevins. He calls himself the system of the WWF and read Nailz’s file and knows what type of criminal he is and then Bossman says he cannot be broken. He then climbs the rope and looks up at the nighstick on the pole. Bossman then tells Nailz he will beat him within an inch of his life. Blevins doesn’t even get to ask any questions, he just holds the mic for the talent.
Survivor Series Report with Gene Okerlund. Big news here as we found out that The Bushwhackers have allowed the Nasty Boys to take their place as teammates of the Natural Disasters to go up against Money Inc. & Beverly Brothers. Plus, the British Bulldog vs. The Mountie match was no longer advertised for the show. The Mountie quit the company and shortly after this aired Bulldog was fired. I will get into the firing in the coming days.
WWF Tag Team Title Match: High Energy vs. Money Inc. (c) w/ Jimmy Hart
Before the match, IRS tells the crowd you cannot get away with cheating on your faxes. DiBiase takes Hart over with an arm drag then taunts Koko but soon after that High Energy takes control and clear the ring. The match settles down as Koko works the arm of IRS. DiBiase knees Koko from the apron then chokes him out as IRS runs interference. Money Inc. neutralize Koko then Koko and IRS mess up a double clothesline spot and tag out. Hart runs wild but ducks his head for a back drop and after what seemed like an eternity, DiBiase hits a swinging neckbreaker for the win (4:18) *1/2.
Thoughts: High Energy did some cool stuff but Money Inc. really does suck as an act. DiBiase is banged up and uninterested while IRS just flat out sucks with his tired act. A clean loss to a transition move tells you all you need to know about High Energy’s spot in the pecking order.
We get another Event Center segment. Since this is a Boston market show we learn that Superstars will be shown at 4pm next week. Certainly not a strong time slot.
Next week in action are Kamala, Marty Jannetty, Headshrinkers, and Nailz. Plus, an interview with the Natural Disasters and the featured match as British Bulldog defends the Intercontinental Title against Repo Man. We hear from the IC Title match competitors before closing out the show.
Final Thoughts: They pushed the newer talent and feuds along with Bret as it seems a changing of the guard is about to take place. The WWF needed a fresh coat of paint and they did some production stuff like the new entrance and video wall too. Anyway, Survivor Series is less than three weeks away.
