Impact, Indies, and Insanity: November 22, 2018

By Andy PG on November 22, 2018

“God as my witness, I swear I thought turkeys could fly.”

Speaking of turkeys, Impact will be running their 294th annual Loser Wears A Stupid Turkey Suit Match. Also, we’ll find out what happens when the X Title is vacated due to Option C.

Washington/Dallas is going on right now, with Atlanta/New Orleans to follow. Or, if you’re a college fan, Mississippi/Mississippi State is coming up, leading off a great weekend of rivalry action.

Now, let’s see what the indies have in store for you.

If anyone attended RPW at the Guildhall, let us know how it went! Here’s what else we got.

  • AIW says goodbye to Mt. Carmel in Cleveland on Friday with Hell on Earth XIV. Tracy Williams vs Eddie Kingston! Tim Donst vs Matthew Justice! MJF vs Tracy Smothers! LA Park vs Nick Gage! Plus, Magnum CK says goodbye to the wrestling game with his farewell tag match as part of The Production.
  • CMLL Super Viernes runs again in Arena Mexico. We’ll have the finals of the Torneo de la Leyenda de Plata as Barbaro Cavernario faces Rey Fenix! In addition, an 8-person tag will celebrate Mascara Ano 2000’s 40th anniversary in the business.
  • NOVA Pro is back in Fairfax, VA for their 3rd annual Black Friday show, called Stay Gold Ponyboy! The main event will be a Cibernetico featuring Arik Royal, Logan Easton LaRoux, Kevin Ku, the Ugly Ducklings, Travis Huckabee, the Carnies, and more! Plus, Terra Calaway, Shotzi Blackheart, and Rain will face Brittany Blake, Allie Kat, and Penelope Ford in a Triathlon of Survival — a three-match series of singles, tag, and trios. (I’ll explain the Cibernetico rules later.)
  • AAW is running Saturday in Chicago with Unstoppable. The matches they’ve announced are huge (Matt Sydal vs. Fenix, Rich Swann vs. Trevor Lee, Fred Yehi vs. Mance Warner, MJF vs. Sami Callihan), but on top of that, they’ve said Jimmy Jacobs, David Starr, DJ Z, and Colt Cabana will be in town! What a show!
  • CHIKARA is running 7 Man Army in a crossover doubleheader at the WrestleFactory with Beyond. The two squads will face off in a Cibernetico in the main event of the matinee show…
  • …before Beyond runs Night 1 of their TFT at the same place! TFT (normally the Tournament For Tomorrow) is a 16-team tag tournament this year. Teams include, but are nowhere near limited to, No New Friends, Viking War Party, Doom Patrol, the Hooligans, FIST, Sadkampf, and Hot Wheelz! The first round will be in Philadelphia on Saturday night…
  • …before everyone races to Worcester, MA, for the second half of the tournament! Also, that second show will feature Colt Cabana taking on Jonathan Gresham while MJF and Thomas Sharp square off against EYFBO (aka Konnan’s LAX)!
  • Monday features PROGRESS coming to you from London with Chapter 79! Trent Seven has invited an open challenge for the Atlas title, while Drew Parker faces Jimmy Havoc and — in a fun twist — the Anti-Fun Police take on Bill Carr and Det. Dan Barry!

So, Ciberneticoes. They’re not often run outside Mexico or CHIKARA, and you’ll never see them (as of now) in WWE, Impact, or New Japan, so you may not recognize the match type. Here’s how it goes… you get two teams of lots of people (usually 7-10). There’s no tags, as all you have to do is leave the ring for the next guy on your team to come in. And when I say “the next guy”, I mean it literally: each team submits a fixed rotation for their team, and they must enter/exit the match in accordance with this rotation. Should someone be eliminated by pin, submission, or DQ — there are obviously no countouts — their spot in the rotation is skipped to the next one until the whole team is eliminated. But that doesn’t mean one team wins: Ciberneticos can only have one winner, so the winning team faces itself (adhering to the rotation) until just one person remains and is crowned the winner.

Bring the insanity! Here, I’ll start with this match from Joey Janela’s LA Confidential:

Brody King vs. Bob Holly!
