(Fill in the Blank) Power!

Hey Scott–
Since we're entering the Diesel era in your Observer recaps and Raw reviews, let's say you can predict what a flop his run is going to be. What do you differently? Give crazy Bob an actual run with the belt? Keep it on Bret or job him to someone else? Do the Diesel switch but have him lose to Shawn at WrestleMania?
Given the "talent" you have to work with in 1995, how do you book the world title?
Three viable options:
1. Keep the belt on Backlund and do the organic split of Diesel & Shawn, leading to Diesel winning the Royal Rumble and triumphing over Backlund at Wrestlemania after you see how far you can take the Backlund thing. I honestly think it still had the juice to go for MONTHS.
B. As noted, do the switch as they did, but then quickly realize along with everyone else in the world that Shawn Michaels is the real star and switch the title to him at Wrestlemania and leave him as a heel. Fans would organically turn him babyface pretty soon anyway.
3. Do the Backlund switch as before, but DON'T TURN DIESEL. Let him be himself and not the corporate stooge.
Of course, instead we got Vince trying to force two straight champions to be white meat babyface all-stars.
