WWF Superstars – October 10th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on November 20, 2018

October 10, 1992

From the Winnipeg Arena in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect

The show starts off with a Survivor Series report hosted by Gene Okerlund. He announces the Survivor Series main event and that match is Razor Ramon & Ric Flair vs. Ultimate Maniacs. That match should not come to a surprise given it’s been the top program the past few weeks.

We then see a promo from Razor Ramon that is shown from the video wall as he tells Randy Savage if he wants some then he’ll have to wait until the Survivor Series. Razor then heads out to the ring for his match. I thought that was a cool thing to do and more original than a basic insert promo during the match.

Razor Ramon vs. Steve May

Razor beats the crap out of May to start. Razor hits a fallaway slam then stretches May out as Hennig says he has the “razor’s edge.” Razor continues to kick the crap out of May then hits a super back suplex before the Razor’s Edge gets the win (2:46).

Thoughts: Another impressive squash match win for Razor as he has immediately made an impact since debuting. Razor said he came to WWF due to a promise of a push and he has not let anyone down in terms of his work.

Vince says that Bret Hart, Kamala, and High Energy are also in action this week. He then talks about the Survivor Series main event with Perfect.

Jerry Fox vs. Max Moon

Moon is in fact the Komet Kid who made his debut last week. Finkel referred to Max as “Maximilian.” Vince loves that he shoots fire and confetti. Moon takes Fox out of the corner with a monkey flip then hits a pair of dropkicks that sends Fox through the ropes. Vince teases Perfect that Moon’s dropkick reminds him of Perfect as Moon stays in control. Vince says that the WWF referees will be more proactive than before and soon after that Moon uses a rolling fireman’s carry slam for the win (2:25). Vince also says that a newcomer named Lance Cassidy will be coming up soon.

Thoughts: No idea why they changed the name one week after the debut but they did push Moon a bit on commentary. Diamond was solid in the ring but is not showing much charisma with the gimmick. And Vince mentioned how the referees would exert more control during the matches which makes you think a new storyline will happen.

We see the clip of various WWF talent at “Gilda’s Club,” which is named after Gilda Radner. A brief montage of Gilda’s various SNL characters is also shown too.

High Energy vs. Brian Jewel & Ken Johnson

High Energy work over Jewel to start as Vince keeps going on about WWF referees being more assertive and how WWF President Jack Tunney has named Sgt. Slaughter as the enforcer of the rules. High Energy stay in control as the announcers keep talking about the stricter officiating then Owen holds up Johnson and Koko hits a missile dropkick for the win (3:04). Perfect calls High Energy’s gear the worst he has ever seen.

Thoughts: The big news here is that Sgt. Slaughter has a new role as an enforcer of the rules. High Energy remain fodder for pants jokes.

Nailz heads into the ring for his match against Eric Freedom and tosses him outside before the bell rings then demands the mic. Nailz then says he came out for one reason and one reason only and that is to for the Big Bossman. Nailz calls out Bossman and says he will beat him down so he will not be able to walk. Freedom tries to get back inside and gets shoved off of the apron as Vince says Bossman is not here this week. Same segment we saw a few weeks ago on “Wrestling Challenge” where Nailz called out Bossman, who the announcers said was not here this week. The fact they keep delaying these two from facing off is nuts and it kinda does make Bossman look weak.

Tom Stone vs. Lance Cassidy

Vince says that both Bossman and Nailz will be on “Prime Time Wrestling” this week via satellite. Cassidy is Steve Armstrong, who was previously in WCW teaming with Tracy Smothers as the Young Pistols. Here, Cassidy is a generic babyface cowboy gimmick with a theme song that sounds more like a poor Stevie Ray Vaughn impression than anything else. He also has pistols on the back of his tights. Cassidy takes Stone outside with a dropkick after an Irish whip sequence. Cassidy almost puts Stone away with a sunset flip in the corner then works the arm. Vince makes fun of Stone’s conditioning as Cassidy tosses Stone off of the top rope then uses a flying body press for the win (3:30). Vince says we will see quite a bit more of Cassidy in the future.

Thoughts: Cassidy looked pretty good here but a cowboy type gimmick in 1992 does not exactly sound like a recipe for success.

Okerlund sees Sgt. Slaughter, dressed in a suit, watching the ring from afar. Slaughter guarantees we will see the rules enforced more closely than ever before.

We see another video montage on Bob Backlund. We see his scholastic athletic accomplishments and more wrestling highlights. Backlund says he will be have more notoriety than ever before and will stand out in today’s more flamboyant WWF. Backlund is bringing it back old school I guess.

Kamala w/ Harvey Whippleman & Kimchee vs. Kevin Kruger

Before the match, we see The Undertaker on the video wall as he tells Kamala to rest in peace. Kamala is frightened and Kruger tries for a sneak attack but that fails. Kamala chops Kruger then chokes him out before the splash gets the win (1:17). Paul Bearer once again rolls a casket down to ringside and frightens Kamala, who once again retreats through the crowd. Vince mentions how Kamala will face the British Bulldog on Prime Time.

Thoughts: A continuation of Kamala being petrified of coffins. And they plugged Kamala facing Bulldog this week on Prime Time.

An ad for the Survivor Series airs.

Bill Jodoin vs. Bret “The Hitman” Hart

Jodoin was a long-time enhancement wrestler for Stampede. Bret clotheslines Jodoin outside as Jodoin struggles to even fall outside. The announcers talk about voodoo and the feud between Bret and Papa Shango. Bret hits an elbow drop as Vince says that Kamala is still on the run and unable to be found. Bret stays in control then uses a sharpshooter for the win (3:25).

Thoughts: More talk about the Bret/Shango feud here.

Final Thoughts: The big news is that we found out about the Survivor Series main event. We also learned abut Sgt. Slaughter now being an “enforcer” and saw the debut of Lance Cassidy and that Komet Kid is now Max Moon. Expect more matches to be announced next week for the Survivor Series.
