WWF Wrestling Challenge – October 4th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on November 18, 2018

October 4, 1992

From the Capital Centre in Landover, MD

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

This week’s featured match is El Matador vs. Kamala. Also in action are Razor Ramon, Bret Hart, Money Inc., and Tatanka.

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Barry Hardy

Heenan once again says that Bret is looking like Michael Jackson. The announcers talk about the Bret vs. British Bulldog match at SummerSlam as Heenan believes Papa Shango’s curse caused Bret to lose. Bret is shown in an insert promo telling Shango the only way to impress him is in the ring and does not think he can do it then Bret uses a sharpshooter for the win (2:30).

Thoughts: They are still going with the story of Bret not believing in Shango’s voodoo

WWF Update with Lord Alfred Hayes. The formation of the Ultimate Maniacs is shown then we hear some younger fans talking them up. They are really desperate for something to catch fire due to the sharp decline in attendance and ratings so this is the result. It seemed crystal clear these fans were told what to say on camera.

Kerry Davis vs. Repo Man

Repo Man cheap shots Davis then pulls him off of the apron and laughs then stays in control before using a single leg crab for the win (2:02).

Thoughts: Not much to this one as Heenan continued his campaign gimmick for the election season.

Tatanka vs. Brooklyn Brawler

Tatanka works over Brawler as Heenan accuses Tatanka of making it rain outside every time he dances. Tatanka stays in control and works the arm before hitting a Samoan drop for the win (2:45).

Thoughts: Just a backdrop for Heenan to make ethnic jokes at Tatanka’s expense.

Clip of last year’s Survivor Series between Ric Flair and Roddy Piper’s teams.

Razor Ramon vs. Glen Ruth

Razor beats on Ruth then hits a fallaway slam. We hear from Razor Ramon in an insert promo telling Randy Savage he cannot hide behind the Ultimate Warrior and will have to face him eventually. Razor then hits a super back suplex before using a crucifix powerbomb for the win, called the “Razor’s Edge” by Heenan (2:01).

Thoughts: To my knowledge this was the first time Razor’s finisher was actually called the Razor’s Edge. A simple yet great name for the move.

An ad for the Survivor Series airs.

Kamala w/ Harvey Whippleman & Kimchee vs. El Matador

Kamala backs Matador into the corner but Matador is able to get out. Matador works the arm then tries to take Kamala off of his feet but runs into a double throat thrust. Kamala lands some chops and kicks before applying a bearhug. Heenan tries to tell Gorilla that Kamala is not afraid of the Undertaker but Gorilla is not buying what he’s saying. Matador gets his foot up to stop a charging Kamala then finally gets him off of his feet with a flying forearm. Kimchee distracts Matador, who walks into a thrust kick, then goes for a splash but sees Paul Bearer come down the aisle while running the ropes and stops in his tracks and takes off through the crowd as Matador wins via count out (5:01) *.

Thoughts: Matador worked hard but this was all about advancing the angle of Kamala being petrified of caskets and The Undertaker for that matter

Money Inc. w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Mike Bell & Tony Perez

DiBiase is still rocking the white gear. Money Inc. takes control to start then we hear from them in an insert promo saying they are coming for the titles as Gorilla accuses Hart of playing the middle when it comes to selecting a #1 contender for the Tag Team Titles. Money Inc. stay in control then IRS hits a Write Off clothesline for the win (2:07).

Thoughts: More talk about Jimmy Hart not making up his mind as to which team will get a title shot.

Gene Okerlund welcomes the British Bulldog to the interview platform. Bulldog thanks Bret Hart for giving him the title match then thanks his family and the fans before promising to defend the title with honor and dignity in a manner to make us all proud. Odd that they ended the show with an interview and it was one of the most generic you will ever see. And given Bulldog’s lack of talent on the mic it was for the best.

Final Thoughts: A continuation of the current storylines this week. We did get a featured match at least but starting next week the focus will all be on the Survivor Series.
