Russo in WCW

I remember when Russo and Ferrara bolted WWF for WCW and thinking it was a big deal and that was going to really hurt the WWF. Of course, I had no idea at the time how much of Russo’s work was being edited by Vince McMahon

In terms of his epic fail at WCW, what was the biggest error he made:

1. Not understanding WCW fans didn’t care for the WWF product, so they wouldn’t care about his WWF style booking?

2. Not having someone like Vince McMahon to sit out the really awful ideas?

3. Putting himself over and making himself an on-air character?

4. awful ideas like David Arquette and Vince Russo as WCW Champions?

5. something else?
It's kind of a combination of 1 and 2, although his bigger issue is that he didn't understand basic wrestling booking in the first place. It's like when you get the movies where it's the directorial debut of former special effects guys or stunt men or whatever, and you get a movie where that one aspect of it is really well done but there's no underlying sense of story or plotting. Russo was the guy hired to punch up the script, left alone to make an entire movie on his own.
