Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
Natural Disasters vs. Gus Kantarakis & Nick Sherry
Kantarakis flexes after shoving Earthquake then refuses to engage in a test-of-strength. Kantarakis then comes off the rope but is caught and slammed down. Earthquake then uses an airplane spin and falls on top of him because he was dizzy. Sherry tags and comes off the top with an ax handle but ends up bouncing off of Earthquake. The Disasters are then shown in an insert promo saying they do not care who the #1 contenders are and after that use a pair of splashes for the win (2:57).
Thoughts: The big story now in the Tag Team Division is waiting to see who will officially become the #1 contenders.
In action this week are Undertaker, Nailz, and Shawn Michaels.
The Randy Savage Interview from 9/19 where the Ultimate Maniacs are formed was shown.
The Mountie w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jay Sledge
The Mountie sings his theme when he gets into the ring. Mountie slaps around Sledge as Gorilla says Mountie hasn’t been the same since he spent that night in prison then Mountie hits a dropkick for the win (1:06). After the match, Mountie threatens Sledge with the shock stick then sings his theme once again.
Thoughts: The Mountie remains without a feud now that Slaughter is done.
An ad for the Survivor Series, which will take place on Thanksgiving Eve, November 25th.
Nailz vs. Tony DeVito
Gorilla tells us we will soon get a career retrospect on former champion Bob Backlund as Heenan heard he will be coming back. Nailz tosses DeVito outside before the bell then takes a mic and said he is only here to fight the Big Bossman. Nailz calls out Bossman and said the system will no longer protect him and promises to deliver another beating as he knocks DeVito off of the apron. Gorilla says that Bossman is not here this week and Nailz knows this.
Thoughts: The big news here is that Bob Backlund will likely be returning due to his name drop here. And they had Nailz call out Bossman, who was not there, which I guess is due to the fact someone realized Bossman has looked like a wimp since returning as he has watched Nailz destroy everyone including his friend Virgil but has not confronted him at all.
We see a clip of Bob Backlund winning the WWF World Heavyweight Title on 2/20/78 then see him sitting in front of a fireplace as he said that day changed his life. After that we get a video montage set to some sappy music as Backlund said he is now 43 years old and coming back to the WWF with the goal of becoming champion once again. It was evident Backlund was returning after being name dropped in the last segment but I don’t know why they
Duane Gill vs. Komet Kid
Kid takes Gill over with an arm drag after a fast-paced Irish whip sequence. Kid works the arm then after that hits a spinning heel kick that landed stiff and finishes Gill off with a rolling fireman’s carry slam (1:54).
Thoughts: Pretty much the same as Kid’s match on Superstars.
Clip of Kamala vs. Undertaker at SummerSlam to sell the Coliseum Home Video release of the show.
The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Glen Ruth
Kamala & Harvey Whippleman are in an insert promo as Whippleman claims that Kamala is not scared of the Undertaker. Undertaker clotheslines Ruth and beats him down before the Tombstone gets the win (2:20).
Thoughts: More hype for the Kamala vs. Undertaker feud as Kamala is now scared of Undertaker despite Whippleman’s claims.
We hear from Razor Ramon, who is in the locker room. Razor tells Savage that he cries for a handout the minute there is any problem and that running off to Warrior does not scare him because sooner or later, Savage has to face him.
Shawn Michaels w/ Sensational Sherri vs. Joey Maggs
Gorilla attributes Shawn’s physique to ICOPRO. Shawn looks into the mirror after getting punched in the face. Maggs lands a few more punches but ducks his head and gets hit with a corkscrew neckbreaker. Shawn hits a dropkick then we hear from him in an insert saying he’s into good looking women but will make an exception and chase a “dog” as he tells the British Bulldog he is after the Intercontinental Title. Shawn then hits a super kick before the teardrop suplex gets the win (2:50).
Thoughts: I liked Shawn’s line about chasing a dog as he is now apparently back to being the #1 IC Title contender.
Next week in action are Tatanka, Money Inc., Bret Hart, and Razor Ramon. Plus, the featured bout of El Matador vs. Kamala.
Final Thoughts: The big news here was that Bob Backlund will be returning and apparently gunning for the World Heavyweight Title. We also saw an interview with Razor that was exclusive as this was a much more newsworthy edition of Challenge than usual.
