From the Hersheypark Arena in Hershey, PA
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect
Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Glen Ruth
Bret beats on Ruth as we hear from Papa Shango in an insert promo claiming his curse cost Bret the Intercontinental Title at SummerSlam. Shango also promises that he has more for Bret. Back to the match as Bret stays in control then uses the Sharpshooter for the win (2:19).
Thoughts: On commentary, Perfect said that Bret has to rebuild himself while Vince called Bret one of the greatest athletes in WWF history. They are still pushing the Bret/Shango feud.
In action this week are Nailz, Shawn Michaels, and Tatanka vs. Mountie.
WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We go over the events that led to Randy Savage losing the World Heavyweight Title. Okerlund adds that he will have an interview with Savage later on in the show.
Ross Greenberg vs. Shawn Michaels w/ Sensational Sherri
Shawn toys with then outsmarts Greenberg after having him get chased across the ring. Perfect tells us that Flair will be on “Prime Time Wrestling” via satellite this Monday night. Shawn roughs up Greenberg then cuts off a comeback with a boot to the face. Shawn then hits a super kick before the teardrop suplex gets the win (2:54).
Thoughts: The big news here is an exclusive Flair interview on Prime Time this week. Shawn gets a win but does not appear to have a feud at the moment.
The Mountie w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Tatanka
Tatanka cuts off Mountie’s pre-match routine and sprints to the ring. Vince mentions that Tatanka is putting his undefeated streak on the line. Mountie taunts Tatanka with his own version of a rain dance but gets slapped across the face. Tatanka no-sells a chop and hits a few of his own as Mountie spills outside. Mountie & Hart head up the aisle as we go to break. The match returns as Hart distracts the ref so Mountie can try a sneak attack but that fails. Tatanka hits a pair of atomic drops then goes after Hart but moves away from a high knee as Hart is knocked off of the apron. Tatanka stays in control until Hart trips him up as both men are down. Mountie hits a jumping back elbow smash then hangs Tatanka upside down in the corner and kicks his back while Hart holds Tatanka’s legs. Hart gives Mountie the microphone as Mountie tells us who he is but that allows Tatanka time to get back up and fight back. Tatanka runs wild until he misses a splash. Hart slips Mountie the shock stick then distracts the ref as Mountie uses the stick but Tatanka is able to roll away. The ref then rings the bell for the DQ as Tatanka returns and beats on Mountie (7:53) *1/2.
Thoughts: Not a whole lot to this match. Mountie mostly did shtick and they played up Tatanka’s streak on commentary. The DQ finish is fine I suppose and even though it was the era of protecting guys on TV having Mountie getting pinned even after a failed interefernce attempt or something would not have been the worst thing in the world. And The Mountie was not doing anything at this time.
Howard Finkle tells us that Shawn Michaels has left the building.
Nailz vs. Kerry Davis
Nailz immediately chokes out Davis. The announcers talk about the Bossman/Nailz feud then Nailz uses a chokehold for the win (1:00).
Thoughts: More hype for Bossman/Nailz but they keep holding off any additional confrontations or even a match as this feud has lost a lot of steam.
Vince hypes up the newest edition of “WWF Spotlight” magazine with Ultimate Warrior on the cover.
Okerlund welcomes Randy Savage to the interview platform. Okerlund congratulates Savage for being courageous enough to come out after getting attacked by Razor Ramon. Savage then tells Razor that while his gold is missing, he has something extra around his knee. We then see a knee pad on Savage’s knee with the Ultimate Warrior symbol that reads “Ultimate Maniacs” as Savage tells us that the Macho Maniacs and Warriors have combined. Savage then calls out Flair and asks him to get a load of this as Warrior comes out and hugs Savage. Warrior now tells Savage he gave him his greatest battle at SummerSlam and the bond between the Macho Maniacs and Warriors will be forever. Savage gives Warrior his glasses then they raise hands. Now, we have a bond between Warrior & Savage as they are dubbed the Ultimate Maniacs, likely to face off against Flair & Razor in the future. The decision to pair up the two is fine by me although it does come off as a second-rate Mega Powers.
Tony DeVito vs. Kamala w/ Harvey Whippleman & Kimchee
Kamala beats on DeVito as the announcers talk about the Kamala/Undertaker feud. We then hear from Whippleman in an insert promo saying Kamala is not afraid of The Undertaker. Kamala stays in control then puts DeVito away with a splash (1:41). After the match, Paul Bearer pushes a coffin down the aisle and Kamala freaks out and escapes through the crowd with Whippleman & Kimchee following. Vince wonders if Undertaker is inside of the coffin.
Thoughts: The Undertaker/Kamala feud continues as now Kamala is petrified just by seeing a coffin.
Next week we will have the debut of the Comet Kid. In action are Big Bossman, Razor Ramon, and British Bulldog. Plus, an interview with Ric Flair and a plug for Flair’s appearance on Prime Time.
Final Thoughts: The big news here is the new partnership between Savage & Warrior. Plus, they plugged another segment for Prime Time and we had a longer than usual featured match. With the top faces in the company joining forces we now have a storyline set for the Fall.
