Sting’s WWE Run

Was Sting's WWE run always supposed to have lasted as long as it did, or did him getting hurt in his WWE Title match with Seth Rollins in the Fall of 2015 end it prematurely?
Mostly, yes, although he was being used so infrequently that it's not like it disrupted huge plans for him or anything.
