WWF Superstars – August 8th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on October 31, 2018

August 8, 1992

From the Worcester Centrum in Worcester, MA

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect but first the show starts off not with the opening rundown but rather the Gene Okerlund interview with the Ultimate Warrior.

Gene Okerlund welcomes the Ultimate Warrior to the interview platform. The show opened up with this even before the opening rundown of the show. Warrior tells Randy Savage they have faced off many times so they should not be impatient because that is a sign of desperation. Perfect tells Vince to keep watching as Warrior talks about the SummerSlam match then we see Ric Flair come out. Warrior invites Flair up to the platform as Flair said he is not here for a confrontation but rather to let him know three things. Flair said he will become champion before SummerSlam, will be at the show to make sure that the winner has a title match against him, then says the final thing is after last week’s actions, Savage has been calling up Mr. Perfect all day and night asking for Perfect to be his manager at SummerSlam. Warrior is shocked while Flair tells him how Perfect guarantees a win for Savage. Flair then tells Warrior in every cloud there is a silver lining and that his is the fact the deal is not done so Flair tells Warrior to start bidding. Flair asks Warrior how bad does he want it and that in order to get a title shot he needs to win at SummerSlam. Flair leaves as Okerlund is shocked as Warrior is contemplating something. Warrior then says Savage might be acting out of desperation because he did once talk about doing anything in order to retain his title. Warrior says that his Warriors and himself will go on record in doing anything and pay any price in order to win the title. The segment ends with Warrior beating his chest. The news of Flair claiming that Savage has been calling him up Mr. Perfect and offering money for him to be his manager was surprising and a good twist in the SummerSlam main event as Flair & Perfect are trying to get Savage and Warrior to kill each other with the scheme. And they were able to make you believe just a bit that Savage would be desperate enough to get Perfect in his corner.

The announcers now run down the show. This week in action are British Bulldog, Kamala, Natural Disasters, and the debut of Razor Ramon.

Razor Ramon vs. Paul Vandale

Razor chops Vandale hard in the corner then beats him down. Razor then hits a chokeslam and continues to impress then uses a super back suplex before hitting a crucifix powerbomb for the win (2:39).

Thoughts: Razor looked great here in his debut. In his shoot interview with RF Video, Razor mentioned how Perfect told him never to waste a motion in the ring, make everything you do look devastating, and to not hit a bunch of devastating moves during a TV match because you will end up killing them all off. And when you watch Razor’s first TV matches he is doing all of this.

We see Bret Hart’s parents, Stu & Helen in their home. Helen says she does not know what to do anymore about the tension her son’s match against Bulldog has caused as Stu sits in silence. We will get even more Hart family members in the coming weeks to build the hype for this match. And really, its great hype for a babyface match with two guys wanting to put family aside to see who is the best while the family is torn apart on who to win.

Brian Brieger & Brian Donohue vs. Natural Disasters

The Disasters beat on Brieger as we hear from The Beverly Brothers & The Genius in an insert promo talking about becoming Tag Team champions at SummerSlam. The Disasters stay in control and beat on both of their opponents and put Brieger away with a pair of splashes (3:13).

Thoughts: Basic hype for a match that has little fanfare. The Disasters were not over as faces and the Beverly Brothers just were not seen as legitimate title contenders by the fans.

Kamala w/ Harvey Whippleman & Kimchee vs. Ross Greenberg

Kamala beats down Greenberg to start. We see a “WWF Magazine” article on Kamala briefly flash across the screen as Kamala uses a lifting choke to drop Greenberg. Perfect believes that Kamala has what it takes to defeat The Undertaker as Kamala continues to maul Greenberg until putting him away with a splash (2:32).

Thoughts: Another squash match win as they build up Kamala as someone who can possibly take out the Undertaker at SummerSlam.

British Bulldog vs. Iron Mike Sharpe

Vince shills ICOPRO then Bulldog takes Sharpe over with a monkey flip after an Irish whip sequence. Bulldog plays up to the fans as the announcers talk about how love and family will go out the window during the IC Title match at WrestleMania. Bulldog then puts Sharpe away with a running powerslam as Vince says he is “building momentum” towards SummerSlam (2:55).

Thoughts: They continue to push the family dynamic of the Bret/Bulldog match at SummerSlam.

SummerSlam Report with Gene Okerlund. Crush vs. Repo Man is announced for the PPV.

The Berzerker w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Jason Knight

Vince tells us that Hershel Walker will guest on “WBF Superstars” as Berzerker beats on Knight. We then hear from Tatanka in an insert promo hyping his SummerSlam match against Berzerker then Berzerker tosses Knight outside for a win via countout (1:59).

Thoughts: The news here is that Tatanka will now face Berzerker at SummerSlam.

Next week in action are The Undertaker, Money Inc., and the featured match of Big Bossman vs. Skinner. Plus, a special interview with Randy Savage and more!

Final Thoughts: The Warrior interview was newsworthy and Razor Ramon had a great in-ring debut. We also had more hype for the SummerSlam matches and found out about a couple other lower card matches on the show. Since Savage is here next week for an interview we should expect a follow up about Flair’s allegations of Savage trying to get Perfect to be in his corner.
