WWF Wrestling Challenge – July 26th, 1992
By Brian Bayless on October 29, 2018
July 26, 1992
From the Broome County Arena in Binghamton, NY
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
In action this week are Bret Hart, Nasty Boys, and The Undertaker.
Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Vito Krus
Heenan assumes Bret will defend the IC Title at SummerSlam against Shawn Michaels but Gorilla tells him that match has not been made and last time he assumed wrong when thinking Flair would face Savage. Bret beats on Krus then soon after that puts him away with the Sharpshooter (1:25).
Thoughts: They were teasing whether or not Bret would defend the IC Title against Shawn at SummerSlam here.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. Same as Superstars where we learned the Natural Disasters beat Money Inc. for the Tag Team Titles.
The Mountie w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Bill Pierce
Mountie uses his control techniques to beat on Pierce as the announcers talk about the Tag Team Title change. The Mountie taunts the crowd as Hart plays with the Great American Scream Machine then Mountie hits a dropkick for the win (1:23).
Thoughts: No mention of the Mountie/Slaughter feud here as the announcers talked about the Title change. And really, the Mountie/Slaughter feud was just dreadful.
The “Body Star Wars” ad airs.
SummerSlam Report with Gene Okerlund. Same as Superstars with the new matches announced for SummerSlam.
The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Barry Hardy
The announcers talk about the Kamala/Undertaker match at SummerSlam. We then hear from Harvey Whippleman with Kamala & Kimchee in an insert promo as Whippleman tells Undertaker he got into a grave situation as Kamala yells then Undertaker hits a Tombstone for the win (1:57).
Thoughts: Now they have to hype Kamala/Undertaker since it was unexpectedly announced for the PPV.
Razor Ramon vignette airs.
Brian Brieger vs. “The Model” Rick Martel
Martel is shown in an insert promo telling Tatanka and Shawn Michaels that they are losers. Martel beats on Brieger and quickly puts him away with the Boston Crab (0:42).
Thoughts: Martel now has two people he is feuding with but expect the focus to shift onto his match against Shawn at SummerSlam.
Face to Face interview airs.
Nasty Boys w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Tony Devito & Tony Ulysses
Devito of ECW and RoH fame does enhancement talent work here. He has a full head of hair for this match. Ulysses gets knocked outside then the Nasty Boys quickly put Devito away with the running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo (0:45).
Thoughts: We get another completely dominating performance by the Nasty Boys as they are now getting a lot of TV time.
Next week in action are High Energy, Repo Man, Shawn Michaels, and the British Bulldog. Plus, an interview with Nailz.
Final Thoughts: All of the key segments here were already shown on Superstars as we are hyping the PPV and a tug-of-war between bodybuilders and pro wrestlers. What a time to be alive.
