WWF Superstars – July 25th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on October 29, 2018

July 25, 1992

From the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, NY

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect

This week, we will have the face-to-face interview between Randy Savage and the Ultimate Warrior. In action are Shawn Michaels, Tatanka, Nailz, and the Beverly Brothers.

Tatanka vs. Peter Motts

Tatanka chops Motts then slingshots him back into the ring. Perfect makes fun of Tatanka for having his feathers stolen as Tatanka stays in control of the match. Tatanka then hits a slam as Perfect remains pissed over Flair not being part of the SummerSlam main event then says they will take care of that situation. We hear from Tatanka in an insert promo telling Rick Martel he will get revenge as he puts Motts away with a Samoan Drop (1:44).

Thoughts: Besides the hype for the Tatanka/Martel feud we also heard Perfect talking about “taking care” of the fact Flair was left out of the SummerSlam main event.

An ad for the “Body Star Wars” with comments from Jim Duggan (Captain of the WBF Team) and Mr. Perfect (Captain of the WWF Team). Man, they are really hyping this thing up as the desperation to get anyone to tune into WBF Bodystars has reached a crisis point.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We find out that the Natural Disasters defeated Money Inc. in Worcester, MA last Monday for the Tag Team Titles. That match took place at a Superstars taping. A clip of Okerlund trying to get an interview with the ex-champs is shown with all sorts of noises and screaming coming from their door as Hart tells Okerlund to leave. After that the Disasters tell Money Inc. that they will keep the belts for a long, long time. A title change in this era was always newsworthy but this happened in an awful feud with two cold acts. And the Tag Team Division in general is at its lowest point in quite some time.

Phil Apollo vs. Shawn Michaels w/ Sensational Sherri

Shawn beats on Apollo as Vince keeps harping on Perfect being upset over the SummerSlam main event announcement. Vince then brings up how Perfect said just last week that Savage vs. Warrior would be great but Perfect said he still wants Flair to be champion. Shawn hits Apollo with a super kick then uses a teardrop suplex for the win (1:36).

Thoughts: More talk about the SummerSlam main event here as it seems as if they are going to add Flair to the storyline.

We now see Razor Ramon walking around a water fountain. Razor tells us that everyone in the WWF is wishing they could become champion. A man is shown throwing coins into the fountain then Razor pushes him in saying he made his wish of taking a swim come true as Razor says he will take everything he wants in the WWF. I chuckled at Razor shoving the guy into the fountain as these vignettes continue to entertain.

SummerSlam Report with Gene Okerlund. We learn of new matches just signed including Bret Hart defending the Intercontinental Title against British Bulldog as we hear from both men saying how this will be hard because they are family but are both looking to win with Bulldog saying he is undefeated in England. They said that Bulldog is married to Bret’s sister. Other matches are Kamala vs. Undertaker and Rick Martel vs. Shawn Michaels. Kind of strange they went with Bulldog instead of Shawn as Bret’s opponent but Bulldog was super over in Europe. And Martel vs. Shawn makes sense based off of their confrontation on this past week’s Prime Time Wrestling. Kamala vs. Undertaker is odd since Undertaker had been feuding with Berzerker but Kamala seems to be in line for a push so its probably for the best.

Another ad for the “Body Star Wars.”

Nailz vs. Jason Speed

Nailz dumps Speed and kicks him in the ribs. The announcers talk about whether or not the Big Bossman can compete at a high level as Nailz chokes out Speed for the win (1:13). Nailz destroys Speed after the match as Vince tells us that Perfect has left the booth.

Thoughts: Another Nailz squash match win but for some reason Perfect left the booth, which was something the color commentators usually did when they were involved in the next segment.

Okerlund now welcomes the Ultimate Warrior and Randy Savage to the interview platform for their interview. Okerlund asks if we should expect a technical match or a street fight. Warrior tells Savage that at SummerSlam what will take place is that the belt will lay around the waist of who is the very best and that is himself. Savage said he will prove he is the very best at SummerSlam and they go back-and-forth for a couple of minutes and increase their intensity as Savage says he is the Warrior and tells Warrior that he is not. Warrior walks away and beats his chest then we see Perfect & Flair come out to the ring, both wearing suits, and yell at both men. Flair takes umbrage over both men saying they are the best then calls out both men to say that he is #1 and should have the title shot. Flair then says if Savage has the guts to walk the aisle now he would beat him for the title then after that beat Warrior five minutes later. Perfect then does a Savage impression and calls Savage the “Macho Chicken” as Savage bolts to the ring. Perfect & Flair beat on Savage until Warrior makes the save. Warrior then bends over and picks up the World Heavyweight Title. He turns around and hands it to Savage, who yanks it away, and the two get in each other’s faces and have to be separated by several officials. Good segment as its clear that Flair & Perfect are going to fuck with both Savage and Warrior until he gets in the main event or a title shot prior to the PPV. Plus, it added heat to Savage/Warrior. This has been the most interesting segment on WWF TV in months.

Red Tyler & Chris Duffy vs. Beverly Brothers w/ The Genius

Blake beats down Duffy as we get a mild chant for the Legion of Doom. The Beverly Brothers & Genius make fun of the LoD for needing a puppet from their childhood then soon after that Tyler is put away with the Shaker Heights Spike (1:54). After the match, the Beverly Brothers paint up Tyler’s face and write “LOS” across his chest.

Thoughts: More taunting by the Beverly Brothers as they made fun of the LoD for needing a puppet to deal with being called sissies. That does not make the LoD look badass at all.

Next week in action are Bret Hart, Nasty Boys, Papa Shango, and the Legion of Doom. Plus, an interview with The Undertaker and more!

Final Thoughts: The Warrior/Savage/Flair segment was excellent and we found out about the Tag Team Titles changing hands. Plus, more SummerSlam matches were announced. And we will get more news at SummerSlam in the coming weeks.
