WWF Superstars – July 11th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on October 23, 2018

July 11, 1992

From the Copps Coliseum in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect

This week in action are the Legion of Doom, Nailz, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, and Money Inc.

Legion of Doom w/ Paul Ellering vs. Barry Hardy & Kerry Davis

Ellering has Rocco with him. Rocco is dressed like it’s auditioning for a part as a greaser. The LoD destroy Davis as Vince cackles like an idiot at the Rocco ventriloquist act. Hawk wants Hardy to come in then the LoD put Hardy away with the Doomsday Device (2:02). Vince thinks Rocco will bring the LoD good luck but wants to know if they can survive the Beverly Brothers.

Thoughts: Holy shit was this Rocco stuff awful. We get some bad wisecracking ventriloquist to give an act of bad asses wearing face paint and spiked shoulder pads luck. When the LoD in their shoot interview said the Rocco stuff was just Vince making them look like assholes its tough to disagree with them. Real tough.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. After shilling ICOPRO, Okerlund talks about The Mountie’s new “Great American Scream Machine” as we clips of him shocking Sgt. Slaughter and threatening others as we are reminded of WWF President Jack Tunney threatening “punitive measures” if he uses it again. We then hear from Mountie & Jimmy Hart as they taunt Slaughter some more. This feud does not need more hype, it just needs to end.

Chico Martinez vs. Shawn Michaels w/ Sensational Sherri

Vince talks about Shawn’s arrogance as Sherri carries the mirror down to the ring. The announcers talk about Shawn’s feud with Bret Hart as Shawn works over Martinez. Shawn gets pissed over getting kicked in the face, despite the fact the kick clearly hit his chest, and he goes outside to check his face in the mirror. We now hear from Shawn as he tells Bret that he will become champion then Shawn hits a super kick and follows with the teardrop suplex for the win (1:48).

Thoughts: They are really pushing the mirror as part of Shawn’s act. Also, they are now starting to establish the super kick as his setup move. However, this feud needs to evolve past cutting promos on each other, which is what has been happening for months.

The announcers plug the newest edition of “WWF Magazine” with the British Bulldog on the cover that includes a “doggone”good article about Bulldog.

We now get a special video tribute to Randy Savage. The most notable thing about this was the fact there was not one single shot of Elizabeth, which I’m sure was by design due to the fact they were separated at this time.

The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Bruce Mitchell

Vince hopes that Mitchell has life and burial insurance. Undertaker hits Mitchell with a chokeslam then Perfect calls Bearer a “weirdo.” Vince keeps mentioning Mitchell by name as he gets destroyed then Undertaker hits a tombstone for the win (1:50). After the match, The Berzerker & Mr. Fuji head to ringside. Fuji tosses salt into Bearer’s eye then Fuji distracts Undertaker by trying to take the urn and that allows Berzerker to attack from behind. Undertaker shrugs off the offense then Berzerker goes out and throws salt into Undertaker’s eyes but it has minimal effect then Berzerker & Fuji leave.

Thoughts: Besides Vince oddly mentioning the enhancement talent who shared the same name as a writer for the “Pro Wrestling Torch” by name we saw another angle for the Berzerker/Undertaker feud. The angle though was not very good though and did nothing to make Berzerker look like any sort of threat.

Duane Gill vs. El Matador

El Matador teases Gill with his cape then takes control with a side headlock. Vince then tells us we will joined by Kamala, Nailz, Tatanka, and Money Inc. later on in the show. Matador stays in control then hits the El Paso de Muerte (2:02).

Thoughts: Matador is now just portrayed as a veteran talent as the only thing the announcers talk about him is the fact he’s been in the company for several years.

Gene Okerlund welcomes Kamala, Kimchee, and Harvey Whippleman to the interview platform. Kamala moves around as Whippleman keeps calling him aggressive as Whippleman pokes Okerlund in the chest. Whippleman then has Okerlund on his knees beg for mercy so Kamala doesnt destroy him then Okerlund rolls off the stage to avoid being stabbed with the spear. Perfect makes fun of a girl crying in the crowd. We had the angle weeks ago where Berzerker tried to stab the Undertaker with a sword and now Kamala tries to stab an interviewer with his spear.

Dublin Destroyer vs. Tatanka

Vince tells us Tatanka is an example of what ICOPRO can do for you as Perfect makes fun of Tatanka for getting his feathers stolen by Rick Martel. Tatanka skies the Destroyer with a back drop then we hear from Tatanka in an insert promo as he once again promises to make Martel extinct. Tatanka then hits a vertical suplex and a flying chop before the Samoan Drop gets the win (2:03).

Thoughts: Besides the shilling for ICOPRO we get more hype for the Tatanka/Martel feud.

An ad for WBF Bodystars airs.

Nailz vs. Rick Johnson

The announcers talk about the WBF as Nailz jumps Johnson. Nailz chokes Johnson out after a slam as Vince tells us the Big Bossman will return next week then Nailz uses a chokeslam for the win (1:20). After the match, Nailz beats on Johnson with the nightstick then breaths heavily into the camera.

Thoughts: Nailz is still being built up as a threat as they make it a point to have a closeup of his face after his match.

We see a brief ad voiced over by Lord Alfred Hayes telling us that SummerSlam will take place in London, England.

Howard Finkel tells us that Shawn Michaels has left the building.

Money Inc. w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Bobby Perez & Angel Vega

IRS tells the fans they need to look into the mirror and decide they do not want to be a tax cheat. Money Inc. beat on Perez as we hear from them in an insert promo telling the Natural Disasters have better odds in winning the big jackpot in Las Vegas than they do at being Tag Team champions. Vega is in now and is put away by the Million Dollar Dream (1:30).

Thoughts: They keep trying but this feud sucks and the Money Inc. act has no chemistry whatsoever.

We get another Razor Ramon vignette. He tells us he has good food, drink, and chicas but some people in the WWF have been putting him down, saying he is not good enough. Razor wants to know if people think he is a pig or an animal then thinks people are scared of him. Razor then tells the waiter off for bringing him a check and runs him down as he is offended. Razor then pushes everything off of the table. Another great vignette by Razor, who already is one of the more intriguing characters on the roster despite not even making his debut.

Next week in action are British Bulldog, The Mountie, and Ric Flair. Plus, an interview with the Big Bossman and the announcement of the SummerSlam main event.

Final Thoughts: A lot of terrible characters and angles featured on this show. The Berzerker run-in was pointless due to how it happened and the most interesting thing for the past month has been the Razor Ramon vignettes. With the poor direction of the company and Vince investing time into the WBF, you have to wonder if the creative would have been this poor had Pat Patterson still been around (He was gone just around WM8 and came back in September I believe) because I have no other ideas to explain why we are seeing all of this crap on TV.
