WWF Wrestling Challenge – June 14th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on October 16, 2018

June 14, 1992

From the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, OH

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

This week in action are the Legion of Doom, Repo Man, The Undertaker, and Money Inc.

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Brian Costello

Heenan says that Bret looks similar to Michael Jackson and points out how they have similar hair. Bret works over Costello as the announcers talk about his feud with Shawn Michaels. Bret stays in control then puts Costello away with a backbreaker (2:02).

Thoughts: More hype for the Bret/Shawn IC Title feud.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. Same as Superstars that focused on Papa Shango’s curse on the Ultimate Warrior.

Nasty Boys w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Shawn Patrick & Kevin Kruger

The announcers talk about the Nasty Boys and High Energy feud. We hear from High Energy in an insert promo as they talk about not being stopped due to their high energy. Whose the genius that came up with that line? The Nasty Boys beat on Kruger as Gorilla talks about the high-flying moves from High Energy and the power of the Nasty Boys to hype that feud some more. Patrick is in now as the Nasty Boys beat him down then hit the running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo for the win (2:41).

Thoughts: Nasty Boys/High Energy is another Tag Team Title feud that brings zero excitement. The state of the Tag Team Division is woeful.

We now get a phone interview between Heenan and Big Bossman. He asks Bossman how it feels to have his dinner through a straw then makes fun of his injuries but Bossman says he will be back and slams down the phone. Similar to Bossman’s interview with Perfect but this time Bossman hung up the phone instead of the other way around.

The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Dan Robbins

Heenan does not believe Bossman will come back. Undertaker hits a chokeslam as the announcers talk about his feud with the Berzerker. Undertaker now puts Robbins in the tree-of-woe and soon after that uses a tombstone for the win (2:05).

Thoughts: The Undertaker/Berzerker feud has been downplayed the last few weeks due to the Warrior/Shango and Bossman/Nailz stuff. And Undertaker has been downplayed in general since WrestleMania.

Money Inc. w/ Jimmy Hart vs. George Anderson & Butler Stevens

Before the match, IRS says its time to rebuild the inner cities of America and that means the tax cheats have to pay up. His act is not getting any heat. Money Inc. beats on Anderson then we hear from Natural Disasters in an insert promo telling Money Inc. they do not run, cannot be hurt or beat. Money Inc. stay in control then DiBiase submits Anderson with the Million Dollar Dream (1:45). After the match, DiBiase stuffs a $100 bill in Anderson’s throat.

Thoughts: They keep trying but this Tag Team Title feud lifeless.

The announcers plug the newest edition of “WWF Magazine.”

The Okerlund/Savage empty arena interview from Superstars airs.

Kato vs. Virgil

Kato beats on Virgil in the corner but Virgil floats over and hammers away. We hear from Virgil in an insert promo predicting that Tony Pearson will win the WBF Championship as Gorilla hypes the PPV. Kato attacks Virgil as Heenan said he will host the WBF PPV with Vince McMahon but Virgil comes back with a crucifix for the win (1:44).

Thoughts: Virgil needing a surprise crucifix to beat Kato tells us he’s going to be dropping even lower on the card.

We get an ad for the WBF Championship.

Repo Man vs. Chris Hahn

Repo Man beats down Hahn as Heenan laughs hysterically over a story of Repo Man stealing a bike of a kid after his dad was laid off and could no longer afford payments for that or food. We then hear from Repo Man in an insert promo telling the British Bulldog he will choke him longer next time. Repo Man stays in control as Heenan laughs over other stories from the Repo Man then Repo Man grapevines the leg for the win (1:55). After the match, Repo Man hogties Hahn.

Thoughts: Heenan laughing at his Repo Man stories was pretty funny and more entertaining than the Repo Man/Bulldog feud.

The Razor Ramon vignette airs.

Legion of Doom w/ Paul Ellering vs. Red Tyler & Burt Stiles

The LoD beat down Tyler as Heenan said the Beverly Brothers told him the LoD used to be in the Girl Scouts and sell cookies door-to-door. Gorilla plugs an article in “WWF Magazine” about street smarts vs. suburban smarts to hype the LoD/Beverly Brothers feud then the LoD hit Stiles with the Doomsday Device for the win (2:18). Gorilla then gets in a funny line after the Doomsday Device by saying he wants to see the Genius do that and heard he can do some “strange things” as Heenan adds that the Genius is acrobatic.

Thoughts: The street smarts vs. suburban smarts storyline is much better than the sissy stuff if you ask me but the main problem is the fans do not buy the Beverly Brothers as having credibility.

Next week in action are the Texas Tornado, Kamala, Crush, and Nailz. Plus, an interview with The Mountie and more!

Final Thoughts: The only exclusive segment was the Bossman/Heenan stuff and that was similar to what we saw on Superstars as this show highlighted main segments from Superstars and continued the other feuds going on in the company.
