WWF Superstars – June 6th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on October 15, 2018

June 6, 1992

From the Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect

This week, we have a special interview with Papa Shango. In action are Bret Hart, Nasty Boys, Crush, and the Repo Man

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Tom Stone

Bret tosses Stone outside as we see Shawn Michaels & Sherri in an insert promo as Shawn looks into a mirror Sherri is holding up while putting himself over. Bret stays in control then puts Stone away with the Sharpshooter (1:55).

Thoughts: A continuation of the Bret/Shawn feud with the new wrinkle of Shawn constantly looking into a mirror.

WWF Special Report with Gene Okerlund. We saw last week when the convict attacked Big Bossman then Okerlund learns us this convict goes by the name of “Nailz” that he earned from his inmates. Nailz is now shown in front of a brick wall with Bossman’s nightstick as he says no one can stop him now. The convict now has a name.

Reno Riggins & Major Yates vs. Nasty Boys w/ Jimmy Hart

The announcers talk about the Nasty Boys facing High Energy. Sags beats down Riggins in the corner. We hear from High Energy in an insert promo as they live up to the name by speaking a bunch of hyper-verbal jibberish. The Nasty Boys now beat on Yates until they put him away with a running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo (1:57).

Thoughts: Good god is the High Energy gimmick terrible. It was not just the attire as they were portrayed as being so energetic they came off as hyperactive children here.

An ad for the WBF Championship airs. Just one week away.

Texas Tornado vs. Mike Collins

Vince puts over the Fitness Expo and how Tornado will be in attendance. Tornado is then shown in an insert promo plugging his appearance at the Expo and predicting David Dearth to win the WBF Championship, prompting Mr. Perfect to go on a rant about Lex Luger winning if he entered. Tornado takes control of Collins early then puts him away with the Tornado Punch (1:22).

Thoughts: A backdrop for the WBF Championship PPV discussion as Tornado has been staying in the lower card since returning from rehab. Then again, you have to slowly get your trust back.

Beverly Brothers w/ The Genius vs. Mike Samples & Scott Bailey

The Beverly Brothers tease some kid wearing Legion of Doom shoulder pads then take them off and promise they will make them better and proceed to use yellow paint and write “LOS” on the front. The Beverly Brothers beat on Samples then we hear them in an insert promo with The Genius giving us a “Sissy News Bulletin” and make fun of the LoD & Ellering. The Beverly Brothers stay in control of the match then put Samples away with the Shaker Heights Spike (2:40). After the match, the Beverly Brothers paint Samples face and write “LOS” across his chest. The Beverly Brothers then put a wig resembling Animal’s hair then the shoulder pads before pushing Samples down. Vince says the Beverly Brothers are gonna pay.

Thoughts: The Beverly Brothers were on TV seemingly every week in some aspect to call the LoD sissies. You’d think the LoD would just stomp them on the spot but that was not the case. And the Beverly Brothers lacked credibility among the WWF crowds so this feud was a lose-lose situation.

Crush vs. George Anderson

Crush beats on Anderson before hitting a press slam. The announcers put over Crush’s agility then we hear from Crush himself in an insert promo as he predicts Gary Strydom will crush the competition in the WBF Championship. He will also be at the Personal Fitness Expo. Crush then hits Anderson with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker before using a head vice for the win (1:28). The announcers once again put over Crush for being impressive.

Thoughts: More WBF talk as the announcers also put over Crush.

Gene Okerlund welcomes Papa Shango to the interview platform. We see clips of Shango putting the curse on the Ultimate Warrior and how last week when he set his opponent’s feet on fire. Okerlund asks Shango what’s going on as Shango asks Warrior how it feels to not be in control. Shango then tells Warrior he has entered his dark world and into the black circle. Shango then leaves as Okerlund is petrified. However, Shango stops then yells as we see smoke appear near Okerlund, who drops his mic and pours the black liquid from his hand. They couldnt have made it more obvious that he had a gimmick up his sleeve causing the liquid to come out if they tried. This segment did not get over live.

High Energy vs. Kato & Kevin Kruger

The announcers talk about what happened to Okerlund. Vince loves Koko’s bird dance as Perfect makes fun of High Energy’s outfits. Kato and Owen go back-and-forth until Owen hits a spinning heel kick. Vince laughs at Perfect’s joke about High Energy’s pants being too high then the Nasty Boys & Jimmy Hart are shown in an insert promo as they promise to “short circuit” High Energy. Koko works over Kruger then Owen tags in and hits a monkey flip then Owen lifts up Kruger so Koko can hit a missile dropkick then Owen uses a jackknife cover for the pin (2:29).

Thoughts: Every week you have the announcers rag on the High Energy attire so they were literally designed to fail.

Repo Man vs. Dan Robbins

Repo Man sneak attacks Robbins then we hear from him in an insert promo laughing about being the best repo man and now dog catcher. Repo Man stays in control of the match then puts Robbins away with a single leg crab as Vince talks about Papa Shango’s curses (1:36).

Thoughts: The Repo Man’s delivery on his insert promos were amusing but this feud against Bulldog seems like a waste.

Next week in action are Shawn Michaels, Kamala, Tatanka, and Nailz. Plus, an interview with Randy Savage and more!

Final Thoughts: The main thing here was getting over Shango’s voodoo gimmick and learning this convict has a name. Besides that we got more WBF hype as the PPV was just one week away as the company is just not putting out a compelling product whatsoever.
