WWF Wrestling Challenge – May 10th, 1992
By Brian Bayless on October 9, 2018
May 10, 1992
From the Niagara Falls Convention Center in Niagara Falls, NY
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
This week’s featured match is Ted DiBiase vs. Earthquake. Also in action are Undertaker, Repo Man, Big Bossman, and Shawn Michaels.
The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Glen Ruth
Undertaker beats on Ruth. He hits Ruth with a chokeslam then we hear from Mr. Fuji & The Berzerker in an insert promo telling Undertaker next time he will get stabbed with the sword. Undertaker stays in control then puts Ruth away with a tombstone (2:29).
Thoughts: We get more hype for the Berzerker/Undertaker feud.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. This focused on last week’s edition of “Superstars” when Rick Martel sprayed Arrogance into Tatanka’s face then stole his feathers. We then hear from Tatanka as he vows to seek revenge.
Dublin Destroyer vs. Virgil
The Dublin Destroyer is enhancement talent Brian Donahue. Heenan plugs the primetime edition of “Family Feud” for the WWF vs. WBF show as Virgil takes control. Virgil catches a kick in the corner then the announcers talk about the U.K. tour as Virgil uses a super back suplex for the win (1:17).
Thoughts: This match was just a backdrop for the announcers to plug the Family Feud stuff.
The announcers plug WBF Magazine.
Skinner vs. Scott Taylor
Taylor is the future Scotty 2 Hotty. And we had the future Headbanger Thrasher (Ruth) wrestle earlier. Skinner beats down Taylor as Heenan wants his mother to get him gifts for Mother’s Day. Skinner then hits a shoulderbreaker as the announcers now talk about WBF Bodystars as Heenan says his buddy Lex Luger will be the next champion. Skinner uses a slingshot suplex then a gourdbuster before the inverted DDT gets the win (1:38).
Thoughts: Another match where the focus was elsewhere, this time on the WBF and Heenan’s jokes about Mother’s Day.
“Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Earthquake
DiBiase stomps Earthquake before the bell. Earthquake blocks an Irish whip then hammers away before hitting a clothesline. Earthquake follows with a pair of corner splashes as DiBiase flops to the mat. Earthquake now drops an elbow then sets up for the Earthquake splash but DiBiase rolls outside. DiBiase then heads up the aisle but Typhoon comes out and backs him down. Earthquake tosses DiBiase back inside but IRS comes out to attack Typhoon from behind with his briefcase. Earthquake then pulls IRS up onto the apron but DiBiase hits him then IRS comes in and hits Earthquake with the briefcase for the DQ (2:07). Gorilla wants to know what is in the briefcase as Money Inc. beats down Earthquake until Typhoon makes the save.
Thoughts: A short, crappy match designed in theory to get heat for the Tag Team Title feud but no one cared. This feud is really a lost cause.
High Energy vs. Duane Gill & Barry Hardy
Heenan said if Koko was a friend he’d give Tatanka a few of Frankie’s feathers as a replacement. That was hilarious. High Energy are now wearing matching gear. Owen works over Gill as we hear from High Energy in an insert promo calling out the other teams in the WWF. Heenan is pretty funny in ragging on Koko’s pants, which are really high up, then High Energy gets the win when Owen hits Hardy with a splash after stereo missile dropkicks (2:59).
Thoughts: Heenan’s commentary was great here as High Energy cut more generic babyface promos to go along with their terrible gear.
An ad for the WBF Championship on June 13th airs.
Gene Okerlund welcomes the Repo Man to the interview platform. The Repo Man snuck up Okerlund as he was making the introduction. We see a replay of Repo Man hanging the British Bulldog over the top rope as Repo Man laughs then holds up his rope saying that its a leash. This promo was terrible and the crowd was dead.
Vince Sola vs. Big Bossman
Gorilla tells us that Bulldog has a hairline fracture in his neck. Heenan reads a letter from the convict that says he is free and will break Bossman’s bones with his own nightstick. Bossman beats on Sola as Gorilla tells us about the article on Bossman in the newest edition of “WWF Magazine” then Bossman hits a sidewalk slam for the win (1:27).
Thoughts: More hype for the soon to be debuting convict as he vows revenge against Bossman.
We get a vignette of Crush at a junkyard. He tells us about loving baseball as a kid as we see black-and-white footage of him as a kid crushing a baseball. Crush then says he is no longer playing games now that he is in the WWF. Crush had a good look but these vignettes are just fucking terrible. I have no idea what they were thinking.
Shawn Michaels w/ Sensational Sherri vs. Bob Wisseman
The announcers talk about Shawn wanting the Intercontinental Title. Shawn beats down Wisseman then we hear from him with Sherri in an insert promo saying the survey says he will win the IC Title. Shawn stays in control before using a teardrop suplex for the win (2:46).
Thoughts: More hype for the IC Title feud.
Next week in action are Bret Hart, Kamala, and the featured match of the Beverly Brothers vs. Bushwhackers. We hear from both teams to close out the show.
Final Thoughts: Sadly, we keep getting bad feuds and corny gimmicks. The post WrestleMania TV has been awful and the lack of star power is glaring. Attendance is dropping and without a good top feud it will not improve anytime soon.
