Some Outsiders questions

By Scott Keith on September 30, 2018

Hey Scott,

Loving the 97 Nitro rants! Had some questions about The Outsiders for you:

Do you think It was a mistake making Hall & Nash an actual team in the tag division with the tag belts? I feel like It kind hurt their individual star power. Like, why have them feuding with Harlem Heat and the Faces of Fear?

I also feel like It made Kevin Nash seem like less of a threat when going after Goldberg. When Starrcade 98 rolled around Nash had only had only had three one-on-one matches on PPV.
— Rick Steiner at Spring Stampede '97 (supposed to be a tag match)
— The Giant at Souled Out 98
— Scott Hall at Halloween Havoc 98.

Doesn't It seem like they could've been used more effectively in the U.S, Championship division? Or maybe have Nash be the muscle ala Diesel/Shawn instead of The Giant. I dunno just seemed like they always seemed like less of a threat as singles stars because of the team.

Thoughts?
Counter-argument: If you DIDN'T put the tag titles on the Outsiders, then everyone else in the division is automatically devalued because clearly the biggest team in the company has no interest in what are supposed to be the most important titles. So it's a double-edge sword. With that being said, by mid-97 they didn't need to be a team any more, and should have jobbed to the Steiners and been done with it. Then Nash can be a singles guy for a year and a bit before beating Goldberg. As it was, they wanted to have their cake and make nWo merch money, too.
