Who was handled worse?

Hey Scott,
It's often said how WCW didn't know how to use Bret Hart upon his arrival in late 97, but was Big Show's arrival in 99 equally as bad, if not worse? Bret was just kind of … there for those first few months in 98, but Show was immediately made to look like a doofus.
So long story short, who was handled worse upon their arrival at their new gig?
Bret. Big Show was young with a lot of time to theoretically find the best way to push him later on. Bret, however, came in as the disgraced WWF World champion with a ton of momentum and a built-in backstory, plus a limited shelf life as a top guy as it turned out. They needed to get him on TV IMMEDIATELY and have him declare himself to be the real World champion. At the very least instead of putting him in at Starrcade to whatever he was supposed to do, they could have held off until the night after and had him challenge Hogan instead. So many possibilities and they did literally nothing.
