Reigns and Nakamura
By Scott Keith on September 8, 2018
Tonight, I revisited AJ Styles versus Roman Reigns from Payback a couple-few years ago.
Even with overbooking (run-ins from two tag teams, mid-match mini-promos from two McMahons, Summerslam 1996-style false finishes), Roman’s match with AJ is miles above any of the lackluster matches between AJ and “smart fan” darling Shinsuke Nakamura.
Put another way: AJ might have given Roman his best match. But Roman arguably returned the favor.
(I’m talking strictly WWE matches, natch).
Thoughts?
I don't think anyone is seriously arguing that Roman can't bring it with the right opponent. The AJ-Nak feud showed exactly what Nakamura's ceiling truly is now due to injuries and age, whereas Roman is still young and in the prime of his career. Although I'd argue that the Cena matches were easily AJ's best, not the Roman ones.
