Dave Meltzer goes All In…
By Scott Keith on September 6, 2018
…with match ratings from the new Observer.
Numbers for the show were HUGE across a lot of channels, although PPV numbers aren’t available yet. FITE TV did in the area of $1 million revenue off internet PPV, which indicates 20,000 buys there, and both Pro Wrestling Tees and Highspots did merch numbers over $500,000. So Cody made BANK.
To the snowflakes!
1. Kazarian & Scorpio Sky beat The Briscoes in a non-title match in 12:33. ***3/4
2. Flip Gordon won the battle royal to get a title shot later in the night. Dave calls it the best battle royal in decades. ****
3. Matt Cross pinned MJF in 10:06. **3/4
4. Christopher Daniels pinned Stephen Amell. **3/4
5. Tessa Blanchard won the four-way over Britt Baker, Chelsea Green & Madison Rayne in 12:46. Finish brought it down a lot for Dave. ***1/4
6. Cody pinned Nick Aldis in 22:02 to win the NWA title. Dave loved the old school fight feel of the match. ****
7. Hangman Page pinned Joey Janela in a street fight in 20:10. ****1/4
8. Jay Lethal pinned Flip Gordon to retain the ROH title in 14:23. ***1/2
9. Kenny Omega pinned Penta in 17:46. ****1/2
10. Kazuchika Okada pinned Marty Scurll in 26:46. This was the match that went way long, with the producers at ringside screaming at them to go home around 14 minutes as the guys just cheerfully ignored them. ****1/4
11. The Young Bucks & Kota Ibushi pinned Rey Mysterio & Bandido & Fenix in 11:42. ****1/2
So yeah, Dave really loved the show. So did I, it was one of the most fun times I had watching a PPV in many years and I’m glad they pulled it off so well.
