WWF Wrestling Challenge – April 5th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on September 5, 2018

April 5, 1992

From the Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, MS

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

This week is a tribute to Hulk Hogan. Plus, interviews with Ric Flair and Elizabeth.

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Doug Somers

Heenan proclaims that WrestleMania VIII could be bigger than any other sporting event due to it being Hulk Hogan’s last match. Gorilla then plugs the WM 8 Hotline as Bret grabs a side headlock. Bret hammers away then puts on the Sharpshooter for the win (2:20).

Thoughts: They barely even touched on the Bret/Piper match as they went all out in letting us know that WrestleMania VIII could be Hogan’s last match.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. They showed Vince’s interview with Elizabeth from the Prime Time WrestleMania Special

John Price & Larry Siegel vs. Nasty Boys w/ Jimmy Hart

Gorilla calls out Heenan for lying about the Elizabeth pics and also tells Heenan he is on Savage’s hit list as Heenan rants about Eliabeth & Savage not having any proof. The Nasties beat on Price then do the same to Siegel as the announcers talk about Flair vs. Savage. The Nasties stay in control until they put Siegel away with a running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo (2:14).

Thoughts: The announcers discussed the Elizabeth interview and there was no mention of the 8-man tag at WrestleMania.

The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Brooklyn Brawler

Heenan believes Jake Roberts will stoop to his lowest level at WrestleMania. Undertaker chokes out Brawler in the corner then soon after that puts him away with a Tombstone (1:13).

Thoughts: A quick win for The Undertaker heading into his match against Jake at WrestleMania.

The Ric Flair & Mr. Perfect interview at the airport from “Superstars of Wrestling” airs.

WrestleMania VIII Report airs.

Ian Weston vs. Papa Shango

Shango hammers away as Heenan said the centerfold of Elizabeth could sell out the Hoosier Dome by itself. Shango stays in control then hits a reverse shoulderbreaker for the win (1:15).

Thoughts: The focus was Heenan teasing the centerfold of Elizabeth that Flair was going to reveal at WrestleMania.

An ad for WBF Bodystars as we see Lex Luger cut a promo and flex.

The same Hogan tribute from Superstars airs.

Final Thoughts: Just last minute WrestleMania hype here as this was on the same day as the PPV.I’ll have the WrestleMania VIII recap tomorrow.
