WWF Superstars of Wrestling – March 21st, 1992

By Brian Bayless on August 31, 2018

Back on track for the WWF recaps now. And, this weekend, I’ll do some more and maybe review a shoot interview or two for those interested.

March 21, 1992

From the SunDome in Tampa, FL

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect

This week, Ric Flair will show us more photographs of Elizabeth. In action are The Undertaker, Nasty Boys & Mountie, and more!

Hacksaw Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter vs. Bob & Brad Avery

Vince asks Perfect what he is trying to do with these pictures but Perfect switches focus and heard that WrestleMania will be Hulk Hogan’s last match as Vince says he has heard these same rumors but did not realize they could be true. We then hear from Slaughter & Duggan in an insert promo talk about their eight-man tag match at WrestleMania as Duggan hits a clothesline for the win (1:59).

Thoughts: Huge news here with the company teasing that WrestleMania VIII could be the last time we see Hogan but with WrestleMania just two weeks away it feels really forced. And as the show progresses, we will hear more about Hogan. The Duggan & Slaughter team is useless though.

WWF Special Report with Gene Okerlund. We see Okerlund on Ric Flair’s yacht. Flair & Mr. Perfect are inside as Okerlund is impressed. Okerlund tells Flair that Randy Savage denied the Flair/Elizabeth relationship. Flair shows us more photos with Mr. Perfect cracking jokes. Flair then tells Savage in two weeks he’ll be damaged goods just like Elizabeth. Flair says he’ll dump Savage like he did with Elizabeth and that those two deserve each other. We then see the end of last week’s interview with Savage as he kept screaming “untrue” regarding the allegations of Flair having a prior relationship with Elizabeth. Flair & Perfect did a great job at being pricks in this segment.

Owen Hart vs. Doug Somers

Vince calls out Perfect for damaging Elizabeth’s reputation. Vince then talks about Hogan and if it is his last match he’s been as close as perfect to any one wrestler. Owen works over Somers as Skinner is in an insert promo telling us all WrestleMania VIII is an opportunity for the whole world to see how mean he is then Owen hits a top rope splash for the win (1:24).

Thoughts: The focal point here was the previous segment as Vince chastised Perfect over these allegations and photos. Perfect had a funny dig at Okerlund about how he enjoyed the photos too. We also had some hype for the Owen/Skinner match at WrestleMania as Owen is on his own but kept the crappy New Foundation gear.

The Mountie & Nasty Boys w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Dale Wolfe & Bill Wood & Scott Summers

Vince talks about Hogan being a positive role model all over the world as Perfect reminds us that Hogan’s interview is up next. Mountie & The Nasty Boys destroy their opponents as Vince now plugs the “Invasion ’92” Coliseum Home Video release as the Nasty Boys put Sommers away with a running powerslam/flying elbow smash combo.

Thoughts: Vince used this match as a backdrop for some damage control on Hogan by putting over his charity contributions. They also plugged a CHV release too during a match, which might have been a first.

We see footage from last week where Sid Justice attacked Virgil and broke his nose.

Gene Okerlund welcomes Hulk Hogan to the interview platform. Hogan says this WrestleMania is different than any other one before. He puts over Sid’s “ice cold” look and how he had to watch lots of footage to realize that he is demented like Jeffrey Dahmer and Charles Manson. Okay then. Hogan then warns us what could have happened if Sid attacked Brutus Beefcake. This closes with Hogan telling Sid that he rules WrestleMania then vows to show Sid the power of Hulkamania. Okerlund never did address the rumors of this being Hogan’s last match.

Rick Martel defeats Robbie Sampson in a match first shown on the 3/16 edition of “Prime Time Wrestling.”

Tatanka runs out to the ring for his match but sees Martel making fun of the red stripe in his hair and threatening to use his Arrogance and that leads to Tatanka beating him up until several referee break things up. A way to heat up their WrestleMania match and the crowd seemed into Tatanka so it was a success.

Tatanka vs. Pete Sanchez

Tatanka beats down Sanchez and dances around before using a Samoan drop for the win (1:17).

Thoughts: Quick squash win as Tatanka to keep him strong. Its clear they have something in mind for him after the Martel match.

WrestleMania VIII Report with Gene Okerlund. We learn that Reba McIntyre will sing the National Anthem.

The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Lee Thomas

Undertaker beats on Thomas as Jake Roberts is shown in an insert promo warning Jake of what will happen to him at WrestleMania. Undertaker hits Thomas with the ropewalk attack then puts him away with a tombstone (1:47).

Thoughts: The crowd dug the Undertaker as his match with Jake remains just below the co-main event in terms of importance.

Next week in action are Big Bossman, Undertaker, and Natural Disasters. Plus, Ric Flair reports he has more evidence about a prior relationship with Elizabeth and a special interview with Sid Justice.

Final Thoughts: The Hogan storyline/PR spin/cover up for the fact he was going to film Mr. Nanny was the big news. Other than that we had more photos from Flair and they even hyped up Tatanka’s Mania match as the PPV is just over two weeks away.
