WWF Wrestling Challenge – March 15th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on August 23, 2018

March 15, 1992

From the West Palm Beach Auditorium in West Palm Beach, FL

Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan

In action this week are The Undertaker, Money Inc., and Shawn Michaels. Plus, an interview with Roddy Piper & Bret Hart.

The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer vs. Scotty Williams

Undertaker overpowers Williams then we hear from him with Bearer in an insert promo as he tells says Jake Roberts must face the reaper at WrestleMania. Undertaker stays in control as Heenan tells us not to underestimate Jake then Undertaker hits the tombstone for the win (2:03).

Thoughts: The narrative on commentary about the Undertaker/Jake match is that Jake will stoop as low as humanly possible in order to win.

WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. Same asSuperstars that focused on the WrestleMania VIII press conference.

Skinner vs. Mickey Jay

Skinner backs Jay against the ropes as we hear from Owen Hart in an insert promo. Owen refers to himself as “The Rocket” and will soar to new heights. Skinner stays in control then spits tobacco juice in Jay’s face then soon after that hits an inverted DDT for the win (1:13).

Thoughts: A little bit of hype for the most random match on the WrestleMania card.

We are shown the Savage interview with Okerlund that was shown on Superstars.

Money Inc. w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jimmy James & Jim Brunzell

Gorilla yells at Heenan for trying to wreck a family as Heenan claims innocence by saying he’s just the financial advisor. Brunzell and DiBiase mix it up as the camera shows Hart holding up the Tag Team Titles. We hear from the Natural Disasters in an insert promo talking about their title match at WrestleMania. Back to the match as Money Inc. now beats on James then DiBiase uses the Million Dollar Dream for the win as Gorilla asks Heenan about the original photos of Flair & Elizabeth (2:00).

Thoughts: A lot of focus was on the Savage/Flair stuff as they are trying to push this new Tag Team Title feud but its off to an ice cold start.

Shawn Michaels w/ Sensational Sherri vs. Danny Kamo

The announcers mention how smitten Sherri is with Shawn and that she is far less angry and intense. Heenan says that Shawn has her trained well. Shawn beats on Kamo as Gorilla does not think Shawn has the credentials to beat El Matador. We now hear from Matador in an insert promo as he tells Shawn his love with Sherri will end at WrestleMania then screams “Ole!”. Shawn attacks Kamo with an axe handle from the apron with an assist by Sherri. Shawn then hits a super kick and after that uses a teardrop suplex for the win (2:25).

Thoughts: On commentary they built up Matador as Shawn’s opponent by saying they did not think Shawn had the experience to win.

After the match we see Shawn & Sherri get into the limo and leave. Then, ring announcer Mike McGuirk announces that Shawn Michaels has left the building. I do like this bit.

An ad for WrestleMania VIII airs.

Okerlund invites Roddy Piper and Bret Hart to the interview platform for a face-to-face interview. Piper says he is not wearing his kilt because he only does that for a fight. Piper invites Bret to sit down on the edge as Piper says he is not here to fight now. Piper talks about knowing Bret when Bret was a little kid and jokes he might have changed his diapers. Piper then says he will not be at WrestleMania then tells another story about being at Bret’s family home at night and loving his parents and cannot find it in his hear to fight. Bret reminds Piper if he does not fight then the belt is forfeited and Bret is champion. Piper tells Okerlund to shut up then tells Bret he’s a nice guy who comes from a family of legends, unlike himself. Piper said he came from the gutter and if Bret is really serious and wants a fight then he better be sure. Piper says he will hate Bret’s guts until the match. Bret tells Piper he will see him on April 5th and shakes his hand. Piper then raises the Intercontinental Title belt as if to hit Bret from behind but Bret turns around. Bret lowers his straps as Piper tells Bret he would have had him and to expect this on April 5th. Strong segment to give this match some drama. Piper went from not wanting to ruin his friendship then once Bret made it clear he just wants the belt Piper became patronizing and showed shades of his heel character. We now know both men will not let anything get in their way to leave WrestleMania as the IC Champion.

WrestleMania VIII Report

Tatanka vs. Kato

Tatanka lays into Kato but ducks his head and gets kicked in the face. Tatanka powers up but walks into a second then powwers up again and fires away. The announcers talk about Piper and Kato as we hear from Rick Martel in an insert promo as he says Tatanka will remember “wounded head” and broken back” at WrestleMania as Tatanka hits a Samoan drop for the win (1:05).

Thoughts: We get some casual racism from Martel to hype up his WrestleMania match against Tatanka.

Next week in action are Big Bossman, Sid Justice, and Bret Hart. Plus, more photos of Flair & Elizabeth.

Final Thoughts: The Bret/Piper segment was really good as the rest of the show focused on the main segments from Superstars and hyped up the lower card matches at WrestleMania as the PPV is just three weeks away.
