Impact, Indies, and Insanity: The Night Thread, August 23, 2018
By Andy PG on August 23, 2018
First: IMPACT will have the Pentagon/Callihan Death Match headlining tonight. Also appearing will be Keira Hogan vs Alisha Edwards plus a Brian Cage promo.
Indy roundup after the jump.
Okay, if you want to watch great wrestling this weekend, here’s some places to go:
- Freelance Wrestling will be in Logan Square in Chicago for Dismantling Summer. The Freelance title is on the line when Isaias Velazquez takes on GPA, while Anthony Henry and James Drake defend the tag belts against the GymNasty Boys of Timmy Lou Retton and White Mike.
- NOVA Pro Wrestling will be at the VFD in Annandale, VA for the Summer Of George. Wheeler YUTA and Homicide will be on opposite sides of a Pick Your Partner tag match, while the women present an indie dream encounter as Jordynne Grace takes on Shotzi Blackheart. [NOTE: I’ll be at this show as part of the crew!]
- If you want to stay in on Saturday night and get your Twitch on, it’s TRIPLEMANIA weekend! Jeff Jarrett defends the Mega Championship in a four way against Fenix, Rich Swann, and Brian Cage, but the big match is the Apuesta cage match! The last person of Pentagon Jr., LA Park, Hijo de Fantasma, and Psycho Clown left in the cage will have to show his face!
- Earlier Saturday, AIW comes to us from Cleveland for their 3rd annual WrestleRager. The main event sees AIW mainstay Matthew Justice take on both PCO and Sabu in a triple threat match. In addition, The Production puts the tag gold on the line against Russ Myers and T-Money.
- If you’re a fan of the minor league Charlotte Knights and have tickets to Sunday night’s game, stick around afterwards for some PWX action! Only three matches, but one of them is the finals of the 2018 Crockett Cup between Henry/Drake and the Ugly Ducklings.
- Sunday also has a Beyond/WWR twin-bill from Worcester, MA. Shotzi will challenge Tracy Williams for the Powerbomb Independent Wrestling Championship, while Santana Garrett takes on Penelope Ford on the undercard.
- For our British folk out there, spend your Bank Holiday Monday in London with PROGRESS Chapter 75 (assuming you have friends, since the show’s a sellout). British Strong Style’s Pete Dunne and Trent Seven will face WALTER and Douglas Williams in tag action, while Jimmy Havoc takes on Will Ospreay — and if Havoc wins, he’ll get a PROGRESS title match in the Wembley Arena!
Enjoy the night.
