WWF Superstars of Wrestling – March 14th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on August 22, 2018

March 14, 1992

From the SunDome in Tampa, FL

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect

This week, Ric Flair promises to show us more photographs of him with Elizabeth. Plus, an interview with Jake Roberts. In action are Sid Justice, Bret Hart, Natural Disasters, and more!

Bret “The Hitman” Hart vs. Jimmy James

The announcers talk about the Bret/Piper match at WrestleMania. Bret takes control then Piper is shown in an insert promo as he is once again “too legit to quit” and will not let his friendship with Bret get in his way. Bret stays in control then uses a Sharpshooter for the win (1:19).

Thoughts: They are pushing the Bret/Piper feud based off of their friendship, with Piper promising it will not get in his way as Bret is determined to regain the IC Title.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We see clips of the WrestleMania press conference in Indianapolis. Hogan and Sid almost get into an altercation then we see Flair arrive in his limo. We are then shown a clip of Flair and Vince at a cocktail lounge. Flair is flipping through the WWF Magazine that contains these phots as Vince is disgusted at Flair trying to break up a marriage. Flair tells Vince he is seeing the arrogance of the WWF Champion who is on top of life then says the magazine, which is going to be released tomorrow, could be a collectors item as Savage is trying to buy up every issue. Flair says that Elizabeth was not “celibate” before being with Savage as we see the photos of Flair and Elizabeth on the couch and playing pool. Vince is disgusted at Flair then Flair mentions the dissension between Savage & Elizabeth and that Elizabeth can always call him as Flair once again taunts Savage over being with Elizabeth first. We now cut back to the update set with Okerlund telling us we will hear from Savage later on in the show. They are really pushing these photos hard to use Flair claiming he had a prior relationship with Elizabeth years ago despite current day Flair being used in the photos. And, after the Jake/Savage feud where Jake tormented Elizabeth, this setup came off second rate.

Lee Thomas vs. Papa Shango

Perfect promises even more pictures for next week. Shango beats on Thomas as we see an insert of Shango in his lair. Shango laughs a lot then we go back to the match as Shango beats on Thomas as we see his flaming skull hanging from the post. Shango hits a leg drop then uses a reverse shoulderbreaker for the win (1:25).

Thoughts: Perfect said that more pictures of Elizabeth and Flair will be shown as they are slowly putting over the Shango gimmick.

The announcers plug WWF Magazine.

We now see a sit down interview with Okerlund at Savage’s house. Elizabeth does not want to appear on camera. Okerlund asks Savage about these pictures as Savage’s head is down and shaking side-to-side. Savage breaths heavy and screams “untrue” as Okerlund talks about all of Flair’s claims then the segment ends with a closeup on Savage’s face as he is beside himself. Still, transitioning from the Jake feud right to this is making it all seem like a second-rate Elizabeth angle.

El Matador vs. Lee Armstrong

Vince talks about Savage and what he will do to Flair at WrestleMania. Vince yells at Perfect for destroying a marriage and how Savage & Elizabeth might divorce as a result. Matador works over Armstrong then uses the El Peso de la Muerte for the win (1:04).

Thoughts: More talk about the Flair/Savage stuff as they tell us this new information might now lead to a divorce.

Okerlund is now with Jake Roberts for a “backstage” interview. Jake tells The Undertaker he will do what he wants at WrestleMania and calls out Undertaker for not being able to ride the edge. Jake is asked about attacking Undertaker on the “Funeral Parlor” and how hitting him with a chair almost felt as good as slapping Elizabeth. Jake compares what he did to Undertaker as foreplay then says at WrestleMania he will finish and when the time is right he’ll hit the DDT then talks about taking the gold medal at cracking the skulls of baby seals. More or less the same promo Jake cut last week on Challenge but with even more focus on the baby seal clubbing.

We hear a voice saying “I’ve done my time, boss man” as we see footage from the outside of a prison. This man then says he is getting out soon. Seems like a given this man will feud with the Big Bossman.

Natural Disasters vs. Jim Cooper & Paul Simpson

The Disasters work over Cooper then we hear from Money Inc. & Jimmy Hart talking about making money while being the champs. Vince talks about Hart selling out the Disasters then Cooper is put away after a pair of splashes (1:58).

Thoughts: Hype for the tag team title match at WrestleMania, which does not have much heat at all despite the angle.

Vince plugs the new edition of “WWF Wrestling Spotlight” magazine that features Elizabeth on the cover, causing Perfect to make some jokes.

WrestleMania VIII Report with Gene Okerlund. We learn that Reba McIntyre will sing the National Anthem.

Sid Justice w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. Dale Wolfe

The announcers talk about the new “WBF Bodystars” show as Perfect wants to know why he is not the host. Sid beats on Wolfe then yells into the camera about “no one touching the little guy” when referencing Whippleman. Vince wants someone to stop Sid as Sid stays in control then hits a powerbomb for the win (1:48). After the match, Wolfe is put on a stretcher and has the “call 911” sign and a Hogan bandana put on him. Sid clotheslines Wolfe off of the stretcher then Virgil and some other enhancement talent run out to help Wolfe to his feet. Whippleman gets in Virgil’s face but Sid attacks Virgil from behind. Sid tosses Virgil inside then Virgil tries to fight back but is caught with a chokeslam. Whippleman now takes off the top turnbuckle pad then Sid says this is what happens when you stick your nose in his business as Sid now rams Virgil’s face into the exposed steel as some fans were chanting for Hogan. Sid then yells into the camera about how he rules the world as we hear more Hogan chants. Vince wants to know what he would have done to Beefcake as Perfect adds that would have exploded Beefcake’s face. Sid now mocks Hogan’s hand-to-ear gesture as Vince wants to see Hogan defeat Sid at WrestleMania.

Thoughts: The post-match stuff was pretty damn good as Sid was awesome as a heel. Good way to close out the show and put over Sid.

Vince tells us the preliminary report from backstage is that Virgil broke his nose.

Next week, we have an interview with Hulk Hogan. In action are The Undertaker and The Mountie & Nasty Boys plus more photos of Flair & Elizabeth.

Final Thoughts: They pushed the top WrestleMania matches heavily and we learn that someone is going to be coming out of prison and feud with the Big Bossman as the Road to WrestleMania continues.
