WWF Wrestling Challenge – March 8th, 1992
By Brian Bayless on August 21, 2018
March 8, 1992
From the West Palm Beach Auditorium in West Palm Beach, FL
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter vs. Brian Costello & Paul Samson
Gorilla predicts that the Natural Disasters will become the Tag Team Champions at WrestleMania. Duggan works over Costello to start. Samson tags in and is quickly put away with an Irish whip/Clothesline combo (1:43). Heenan keeps laughing about what we will find out from Ric Flair.
Thoughts: They hyped up the Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania but more importantly, Heenan was teasing the surprise Flair had for everyone.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. This is the Flair & Perfect interview from Superstars where he showed the pictures of Elizabeth.
The Berzerker w/ Mr. Fuji vs. Scotty Williams
Berzerker beats on Williams then we hear from the British Bulldog as he hypes up their WrestleMania match with a lame promo. Fuji laughs over Berzerker beating on Williams then Berzerker tosses Williams over the top rope and wins via count out (2:41).
Thoughts: They have to do something to hype up Berzerker vs. Bulldog, which is one of the most least anticipated matches at WrestleMania.
El Matador vs. Jim Cooper
Heenan continues to laugh about Elizabeth as Matador works the arm. Cooper lands a few punches but Matador takes him down with an arm drag. We hear from Shawn Michaels & Sherri in an insert promo as Shawn wants Matador to take 15 of his relatives inside his aunt’s Chevy so they can see Matador get stomped by a Mexican hat dance. Matador stays in control then uses the El Paso de la Muerte for the win (2:12).
Thoughts: They hyped up the Matador/Shawn match at Mania and talked more about the Flair & Elizabeth photos.
Clips of last week’s “Funeral Parlor” segment are shown then Okerlund brings Jake Roberts out to the interview platform. Okerlund asks Jake if he knows what its like to be inside of a coffin then wants to know what he was thinking by attacking Undertaker. Jake compares that attack to “foreplay” then tells Undertaker if the Winter Olympics had an event for clubbing seals then he’d win the gold medal. Jake says he has always been on the dark side, unlike Undertaker, and walks with Satan daily. The camera now zooms in on Jake’s face as he promises to crush Undertaker’s skull with a hammer then that “geek” Paul Bearer before roasting them both as they will be sent to hell. Gorilla then says that seals do not hit back but Undertaker will. An incredibly dark promo from Jake. The line about baby seals was not something you’d expect on WWF syndicated TV.
Bob & Brad Avery vs. Natural Disasters
The Disasters take control as we hear from Money Inc. in an insert promo with DiBiase saying no one takes their belts or money. The announcers talk about the Natural Disasters anger towards Jimmy Hart then Heenan keeps going on about being fair to Jimmy then says he understands Elizabeth was fair to Flair as The Disasters use a double splash combo for the win (2:57).
Thoughts: The announcers talked about the Disasters being angry at Jimmy Hart after they were sold out but the Disasters are not right as a babyface team.
WrestleMania Report
“The Model” Rick Martel vs. Lee Thomas
Martel beats on Thomas then we hear from Tatanka in an insert promo as he does not care for Martel making fun of his Indian heritage as they hype up that WrestleMania match. Martel stays in control and works the leg then gets the win with a Boston crab (2:29).
Thoughts: Looks like we will be getting some old fashioned WWF casual racism to pump up this feud.
Next week, we will get an interview with Roddy Piper & Bret Hart. In action are Shawn Michaels, Money Inc., and The Undertaker. Plus, more photos from Flair and an interview with Savage.
Final Thoughts: The Jake interview was something out of the Attitude Era in terms of content as the rest of the show was the main stuff from Superstars and hype for the WrestleMania midcard matches.
