WWF Superstars of Wrestling – March 7th, 1992

By Brian Bayless on August 20, 2018

March 7,1992

From the SunDome in Tampa, FL

Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Mr. Perfect. Before the show preview, Mr. Perfect is talking about a woman and runs her down but does not give a man.

This week, we will have a special interview with Ric Flair. In action are Sid Justice, Shawn Michaels, and Tatanka.

Money Inc. w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jim Powers & Terry Davis

Before the match, IRS tells the residents of Florida they should start paying a state income tax. IRS beats on Powers to start. Powers comes back with a hip toss and a dropkick before tagging out. IRS attacks Davis as Hart is laughing about this being “easy money” as DiBiase is now in the match. DiBiase puts on the Million Dollar Dream then lets go and tags out as IRS hits the Write Off for the win (1:21).

Thoughts: A win to build up the new Tag Team champions but there does not appear to be a whole lot of chemistry between DiBiase & IRS in the ring at this juncture.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We see clips of what took place on last week’s “Funeral Parlor” when Jake Roberts attacked Paul Bearer & The Undertaker. Okerlund tells us Jake vs. Undertaker will take place at WrestleMania and hear from Undertaker & Bearer as they saw Jake will meet the reaper.

British Bulldog vs. Lee Armstrong

The announcers talk about the Jake/Undertaker WrestleMania match as Bulldog works over Armstrong. Bulldog hits a delayed vertical suplex before using a running powerslam for the win (1:54).

Thoughts: This was a backdrop for the announcers to talk about the Jake/Undertaker match at WrestleMania.

Shawn Michaels w/ Sensational Sherri vs. Scott Hen

Shawn’s “Sexy Boy” music makes its debut here. It is sung by Sherri herself. Perfect calls Shawn one of the greatest wrestlers in the WWF today. Shawn is then shown in an insert promo telling El Matador he will remember growing up and moving into his aunt’s Chevy as his good old days once WrestleMania ends. Shawn takes Hen outside with a dropkick then takes him out with a running clothesline from the apron. Back inside, Shawn takes control then uses a teardrop suplex for the win (2:09). After the match, Shawn rolls Hen outside then celebrates with Sherri.

Thoughts: Shawn would make ethnic jokes about Matador to build heat for their WrestleMania match. Regarding the theme song, Sherri said she believes Jimmy Hart (who created the song) overheard her saying she has another “boy toy” to manage and Hart decided to put that into the lyrics.

The camera now shows Shawn & Sherri getting into a limo. Sherri kisses Shawn on the cheek as Shawn says it will be a good night. Perfect then says “Shawn Michaels has left the building.” This routine would continue throughout the year. I liked it to be honest. It was fun and different.

Tatanka vs. Doug Somers

Somers bounces off of Tatanka as Vince asks Perfect about the information he has that will distract Savage at WrestleMania. Tatanka hits a backbreaker then a side slam and after that we hear him in an insert promo calling out great Indians like Sitting Bull and Geronimo as he promises to rise to the top of the WWF. Tatanka dances around as Perfect leaves to get ready for his interview then Tatanka uses a Samoan Drop for the win (1:43). Vince notes that Tatanka is undefeated. Tatanka made his debut one month ago so its not that big of an accomplishment quite yet.

Thoughts: They are pushing Tatanka out of the gate. Also, Tatanka said Vince McMahon himself told him he’d start with a long undefeated streak to get him over so that was always in the plans.

Okerlund is outside of Flair’s locker room. He knocks and is invited as we see all of Flair’s robes. Okerlund then asks Flair & Perfect about answers to the information they have. Flair said its no secret that Savage is insanely jealous when it comes to Elizabeth. Flair holds up a copy of “WWF Magazine” that will be released soon as the cover mentions photos about Elizabeth. Flair then says Elizabeth knows that Flair is not only the best wrestler today but also the greatest lover. Flair then says he can prove it and shows us a photo of Flair will Elizabeth at a pool. Flair then laughs and says Elizabeth was his before she was with Savage. Flair then says he dumped Elizabeth and that is the only reason she wound up with Savage. Flair tells Elizabeth she can call him at any point then Perfect asks Flair if she was a “woo” but Flair said she was a “wooooooooooo!” And this would be the storyline for the World Title match at WrestleMania. Giving Flair’s character it made sense but we just saw a long-term storyline where Elizabeth was the target and we are going back to this again although its not as intense.

Brooklyn Brawler vs. Big Bossman

Vince cannot believe Elizabeth had a relationship with Flair. Perfect returns to the broadcast position and is happy about the photos and promises there are even more pictures. Bossman beats on Brawler both inside and outside of the ring. Vince still cannot believe Elizabeth was with Flair as Perfect tells us every woman has a skeleton in her closet as Bossman puts Brawler away with a sidewalk slam (1:41). Vince then says we will likely have a chance to speak with Savage & Elizabeth next week and expects a different story.

Thoughts: This was all about the announcers selling the previous segment with Vince constantly grilling Perfect and not believing him.

WrestleMania VIII Report with Okerlund. We learn about three other matches that will take place: British Bulldog vs. The Berzerker (It never ended up happening and was cut due to time restraints), Tatanka vs. Rick Martel, and Owen Hart vs. Skinner.

Sid Justice w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. Mickey Jay

Before the match, Sid makes fun of Beefcake then says if you are a friend of Hulk Hogan then you are no friend of his. Sid backs Jay into the corner then cheap shots him with a double chop. Jay gets dumped outside as Harvey uses him as an ash tray. Sid brings Jay back inside and roughs him up before using a powerbomb for the win as he refers to Jay as Hogan (1:10). After the match, Whippleman takes out a stethoscope and calls out a stretcher. Jay is put on the stretcher then has a “call 911” sign put around his neck and a Hogan bandana over his head. Sid boots Jay off of the stretcher then talks more trash about Hogan.

Thoughts: The post-match stuff was entertaining and Sid’s character was just awesome but due to Hogan’s fading popularity the feud is not setting the world on fire.

Next week, we will see more pictures of Flair & Elizabeth. Also, Savage will be here for an interview and possibly Elizabeth too. In action are Sid Justice, Bret Hart, and the Natural Disasters.

Thoughts: The big news here was Flair revealing pictures of Elizabeth and himself as this is how they will build up heat for the World Heavyweight Title match at WrestleMania. Besides that they are pushing Tatanka and did bring up some of the other WrestleMania matches too.
