WWF Wrestling Challenge – March 1st, 1992
By Brian Bayless on August 17, 2018
March 1, 1992
From the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum in Lubbock, TX
Your hosts are Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan
In action this week are Sid Justice, Tatanka, and the Nasty Boys.
“The Model” Rick Martel vs. Louie Spicolli
The announcers talk about Ted DiBiase & IRS becoming the new Tag Team Champions. Martel beats down Spicolli in the corner as Heenan laughs at Jimmy Hart double-crossing the Natural Disasters. Spicolli manages a few pjn attempts then hits an atomic drop and a dropkick. Martel catches Spicolli with a hotshot then chokes Spicolli out on the mat then soon after that uses a Boston Crab for the win (2:20).
Thoughts: The focus was on the Tag Team title switch.
WWF Special Report with Lord Alfred Hayes. Same as Superstars which detailed the Tag Title switch.
Barry Horowitz vs. Tatanka
Tatanka starts off by working the arm. He then catches Horowitz with a press slam then Tatanka is shown in an insert promo talking about being the leader of the Indian nations. Tatanka stays in control then hits a Samoan Drop for the win (2:05).
Thoughts: They are still pushing Tatanka with the Leader of Indian Nations gimmick.
Harvey Whippleman is in the ring and says he is the only person who will announce “The Man Who Rules the World” and orders everyone to get up on their feet.
Ed Robinson vs. Sid Justice w/ Harvey Whippleman
Sid beats on Robinson in the corner and stays on the attack. Heenan puts over how badly Sid wants Hogan at WrestleMania then hypes up the PPV. We hear chants for Hogan, which seemed canned, then Sid uses a powerbomb for the win (1:08).
Thoughts: We now have Sid introduced and managed by Whippleman, his real-life friend. Sid also said how Vince told him he was going to be the biggest heel in the business.
British Bulldog vs. BA Dalton
Bulldog works over Dalton as Gorilla asks Heenan about the rumors Flair & Perfect are talking about when it comes to Savage. Heenan plays dumb then Bulldog hits a running powerslam for the win (1:18).
Thoughts: They are playing up these rumors Flair & Perfect have to keep us in suspense.
Replay of the “Funeral Parlor” segment from this week’s Superstars
WrestleMania VIII Report
Nasty Boys w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Action Jackson & Jimmy Jones
The Nasty Boys beat down Jones as the announcers talk about WrestleMania. The Nasty Boys stay in control then put Jones away with the running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo (1:33). The Nasty Boys beat down Jackson after the match then Heenan makes “woof” sounds to describe Mike McGuirk.
Thoughts: The Nasty Boys have been downplayed to Jimmy Hart’s second tier time now that he is part of Money Inc.
Next week, we will have an interview with Jake Roberts. In action are Jim Duggan & Sgt. Slaughter, Natural Disasters, and El Matador.
Final Thoughts: Again, all of the key stuff was already shown on Superstars as we continue to build to WrestleMania.
