WWF Prime Time Wrestling – February 3rd, 1992

By Brian Bayless on August 6, 2018

February 3, 1992

Vince McMahon is your host. Panelists include Gorilla Monsoon, Slick, Mr. Perfect, and Bobby Heenan

Matches for this week are IRS vs. Virgil, Sgt. Slaughter vs. Col. Mustafa & Gen. Adnan, Beverly Brothers vs. Texas Tornado & Greg Valentine, British Bulldog vs. The Berzerker, and Marty Jannetty vs. Rick Martel

After the replay of the WrestleMania VIII press conference, we cut back to the panel as they discuss what took place. Gorilla says that Sid Justice does not conduct himself like a gentleman such as Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. Heenan points out that WWF President Jack Tunney bends over backwards for Hogan then puts over the fact he is the biggest star and does a lot of charity work so it will be even better when Flair beats him at WrestleMania. Perfect agrees with Sid in saying that Hogan cannot beat Flair but does not think Sid can beat Flair. Vince then talks about Hogan & Sid teaming this weekend on “Saturday Night’s Main Event” against Flair & The Undertaker. Also on SNME is Randy Savage vs. Ric Flair.

Irwin R. Schyster vs. Virgil

This took place at the 1/8 “Wrestling Challenge” tapings in Ft. Myers, FL. IRS tells the crowd they love Virgil because he is a tax cheat just like them. Lord Alfred and Sean Mooney are the announcers for the PTW exclusive matches. IRS stalls on the apron then comes back in and gets clotheslined twice before rolling outside. IRS is taunted with “Irwin” chants then he returns and ends up grounded with an armbar. IRS rolls outside a few more times to avoid Virgil as the announcers talk about SNME. IRS returns and rakes the eyes as Mooney tells us that the Legion of Doom will defend the Tag Team Titles at SNME against the Beverly Brothers. IRS cuts off an attack in the corner then ducks a charge as Virgil spills outside. IRS hits Virgil twice with his briefcase then rolls him back inside and grabs the briefcase again but Big Bossman runs out and IRS bails as Virgil wins by DQ (4:56) 1/2*. Bossman then checks on Virgil and raises his hand.

Thoughts: Nothing much to this match as it was mostly IRS stalling until the DQ finish as they still continued the IRS/Bossman feud as that wrapped up around the house show circuit in the next few weeks.

New Foundation defeat John Allen & Barry Horowitz in a match first shown on the 2/2 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”

The panel talks about SNME and the main event tag team match. Gorilla believes that Sid will go out and try to “clean the clock” of Flair. Vince wants to know if Hogan & Sid and Flair & Undertaker can function as teams.

The Warlord w/ Harvey Whippleman vs. Chris Walker

This match took place at the 1/7 “Superstars of Wrestling” tapings in Daytona, FL. Lord Alfred talks about Walker impressing in his debut (the 12/29 MSG match against Brooklyn Brawler). Warlord overpowers Walker to start. Warlord catches a crossbody attempt then hits a backbreaker but gets cocky and misses an elbow drop. Walker fires away and takes Warlord down after a pair of dropkicks. Warlord bails and heads up the aisle with Harvey as Walker briefly plays to the fans. Harvey tries to tell us that Warlord is the #1 man in the WWF as Warlord re-enters and challenges Walker to a test-of-strength. Walker does not bite but charges at Warlord and gets backdropped out to the floor. Harvey is dancing around Walker then Warlord takes Walker off of the apron with a forearm smash. Warlord now beats on Walker inside of the ring and stops to taunt the fans in between. Warlord eats boot on a charge then Walker hits three flying double axe handles then hits a flying body press for two. Walker charges again but Warlord catches him with a powerbomb for the win (6:22) *.

Thoughts: Basic match but Warlord showed some personality here, more so than usual anyway. However, he is really without any direction even with Harvey as his manager. And Walker does not appear to be more than a lower card worker.

An ad for WrestleMania VIII.

Greg “The Hammer” Valentine & Texas Tornado vs. Beverly Brothers w/ Genius

This is also from the 1/8 Challenge tapings. Funny moment as during the entrance, Mooney notes that Valentine “has a job to do” as Valentine looks completely miserable. You can probably predict how this will end. The Genius is rambling about something and gets made fun of by the announcers for being crazy. Valentine works the arm of Beau to start. Valentine takes Beau down with an elbow smash and he isn’t fucking around tonight. Valentine goes back to the arm then hits a chop but ducks his head for a back drop and gets elbowed. Blake is in now but Valentine catches his leg and spins him around for an atomic drop. Tornado tags in as the crowd gives him a decent reaction and he fires away and ends up clearing the ring. Valentine then heads in and raises Tornado’s arm as the Beverly Brothers regroup on the outside. Blake returns and has a shoving match with Tornado that turns into a brawl in the corner. Tornado clotheslines Blake but misses a charge and rams his shoulder into the post. The Beverly Brothers cut off the ring and run interference to maintain control. Beau hits a butterfly suplex for a two count then ducks his head for a back drop and both men collide as it appears Tornado missed his cue. Tornado makes the tag then Valentine runs wild and even takes a few shots at Blake. Valentine uses the figure four until Blake breaks that up then the match breaks down as Blake hits Valentine with a flying double axe handle and puts Beau on top for the win (8:21) *1/4.

Thoughts: Man, Valentine was miserable here and really stiffed Beau at the beginning of the match. Valentine quit before this aired I believe and ended up in WCW, where he quit after being asked to put over Sting on TV. I can only imagine how happy Valentine was to learn he had to put over the Beverly Brothers. Tornado was once again zonked.

Back in the studio, the panel talks about the Beverly Brothers chances at SNME. Heenan thinks the Legion of Doom are hurting after their match against the Natural Disasters at the Royal Rumble and are ripe for an upset. Yeah, will that match never ended up taking place. I will get into that in future recaps.

Bret Hart defeats Kato in a match first shown on the 2/2 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”

Papa Shango vignette airs. After that, we go back to the panel where Vince asks Heenan what he knows about voodoo. Heenan says he knows nothing as Gorilla teases him about Shango putting a curse on him. Slick tells everyone to see the light as Heenan cracks jokes.

Big Bossman defeats Terry Davis in a match first shown on the 2/1 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.”

We are back to the panel where Vince plugs the Hogan Hotline. Heenan says that Hogan did not win the Royal Rumble and is such an egotistical maniac that he will showboat and leave Sid on the apron on SNME and that will be his downfall. Perfect then says that Flair is the champion and a “wrestler’s wrestler” and will stay champion no matter how much abuse he will take.

Marty Jannetty vs. “The Model” Rick Martel

This match also took place at the 1/8 Challenge tapings. We are joined in progress with both men brawling on the floor. Martel runs Marty into the post then rolls inside and taunts the fans. It flashes on the screen that this match was recorded on 1/8, which was just prior to Marty getting put through the Barber Shop window. Martel hammers away on Marty in the corner then sends him hard into the corner. Martel kicks Marty outside as the announcers say he does not show any rust since coming back from his modeling gigs. Martel works an abdominal stretch for a while but Marty escapes then fires away. Marty uses an atomic drop then a clothesline that looked rather terrible. Marty takes Martel down with a mat slam then uses a super kick for a two count. Martel cheap shots Marty in the corner then grabs the Arrogance but the bell rings and we learn this reached a time-limit draw. After the match, Marty dropkicks Martel outside then grabs the Arrogance. Only 6:12 of the match was shown.

Thoughts: Crowd was dead for this and what we saw here was not good at all. However, the fact they told us this match took place prior to Shawn putting him through a window but yet he wrestled in a match that aired a couple of days prior made little sense. I guess they did this to cover for the fact he was in fact fired after being arrested.

British Bulldog defeats The Berzerker from the 12/29 MSG show.

The panel once again talks about the SNME card. Gorilla says its a no win situation for Flair as even his partner cannot be trusted.

Funeral Parlor with Sherri from the 2/1 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.”

Tatanka defeats Brooklyn Brawler in a match first shown on the 2/2 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”

Sgt. Slaughter defeats Col. Mustafa & Gen. Adnan from the 12/29 MSG show.

Jake Roberts defeated Dale Wolfe in a match first shown on the 2/2 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”

Vince tells us that they will be preempted next week due to the Westminster Dog Show but you can watch action SNME as the panel makes predictions.

Final Thoughts: This show was all about hyping up SNME. The action was bad but the goal was putting over Hogan & Sid vs. Flair & Undertaker.
