Hey Scott

Due to his untimely passing and the fact I’m deep in to the raws covering the light-heavyweight tournament I thought I’d ask a couple of questions about Jerry’s kid

1: what was with the almost constant back and forth between the announcers about him being lawlers son with king always denying it? It went on for months and didn’t have any sort of payoff I remember

2: if he was able to stay clean would his ceiling have been any higher than comedy tag team member or does his awkward size (too big for a cruiserweight, too small for a heavyweight) and average mic skills mean he did as well as he could anyway?

Brian was a competent worker and had good charisma, but milking the Too Cool gimmick on the indies for years was pretty much his ceiling. He should have been able to make TONS more money off it in WWE, however, and the drugs really screwed him out of years of merchandising money. The gimmick was so great that they even got another run out of Rikishi and Scotty in the zombie version of it in 2004.
As for the banter, that was all Paul Heyman originally. From there it probably just became Vince messing with Lawler because Vince.
