900 numbers
By Scott Keith on July 22, 2018
Scott,
Since the Observer updates are getting closer to the (in)famous Mean Gene teasing Ric Flair being dead when it was actually Crusher Blackwell taking a dirt nap, how did the split go for 900 numbers between the various promotions and whomever was the topic provider on a given night?
Hopefully the fine window replacement company in Elkhart, Indiana sponsors a 900 number as well.
The Elkhart thing kind of drives me nuts because now I get dozens of people looking for "guest posts" and "paid sponsorships" all the time when really I just did it for the one guy years ago and just deal with him. Outside of the fine people at bigtalljapan.com because I wanted a Naito baseball shirt.
Anyway, as for 900 lines, the split depended on the person doing it and how their contract went, but everyone involved did VERY well. Those lines used to be a giant chunk of WCW's revenue, with no real investment on their end. The internet was basically the worst thing that could happen to them from that end, although thankfully for Vince he eventually figured out how to monetize internet nerds. I don't feel like WCW would have been so lucky.
