When was the best time to run WWF/WCW?

By Scott Keith on July 14, 2018

So I recently dug up my Marvel vs. DC card and comic collection that ran in 1996, and as brief and sometimes ridiculous the battles were, I really liked the pairings for the most part. Jubilee vs. Robin not withstanding , Surfer vs. Lantern! Kingpin vs. Luther! I still geek out going over these.

So this brings me to my question, up until the invasion killed it dead in the most bland way, I always thought of what year do you think had the best potential of WWF vs. WCW matchups? 91, 92? I don’t know why, but I keep starting with Arn Anderson vs. Ted Dibiase of all places and go from there . Early Undertaker vs. Vader, Hogan vs. Sting, who best lines up against Flair, and if it’s post Rockers Michaels, what else is on the card?

I think the thing is that you need a time when there was a lot of unique talent that didn’t jump back and forth, because one of the big selling points of DC v. Marvel is that you’d otherwise literally never see those people interacting.

Really though, the absolutely best time was 1998. Beat this card:

Goldberg v. Steve Austin

The Outsiders, Konnan & Buff Bagwell v. HHH, X-Pac & The New Age Outlaws

Sting v. Undertaker

Ric Flair v. The Rock

Taka v. Rey Mysterio

Randy Savage v. Mankind

Stick Hogan on there somewhere and it’s a bazillion buys.
