WWF Prime Time Wrestling – November 18th, 1991

By Brian Bayless on June 28, 2018

November 18, 1991

Vince McMahon is your hosts. Panel includes Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan, Roddy Piper, and Mr. Perfect.

The panel talks about what happened to Hulk Hogan on the “Funeral Parlor.” Perfect and Piper talk about Undertaker not even budging after being hit with a chair and use that to mock Vince when he got accidentally hit by Piper and was carried out on a stretcher.

Ted DiBiase & IRS defeat The Bushwhackers in a match first shown on the 11/17 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”

Virgil defeats Steve Dupree from the 11/9 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.”

WWF Update from 11/16 Superstars where we learned Jim Neidhart will miss the Survivor Series.

Back to the studio with more talk over who should replace Sid Justice at Survivor Series. Piper wants Randy Savage but Perfect wants Tunney to uphold his stance because if not he will not have any control of the rest of the roster. Heenan uses this to crack more jokes about Tunney being on the take.

El Matador defeats Hercules from the 10/28 MSG show.

Repo Man vignette airs.

We got back to the studio for more talk about Sid’s replacement at Survivor Series. Vince does not think the Legion of Doom and Big Bossman can survive against four men. Piper is confident Savage will be reinstated after hearing a rumor from Tunney’s secretary.

Legion of Doom defeat Barry Horowitz & Ben Jordan in a match first shown on the 11/10 edition of “Wrestling Challenge.”

Vince now plugs the Hogan Hotline then leads us into the Survivor Series Report.

Clip from “Superstars of Wrestling” with Tunney saying he is taking the fan support into consideration over whether or not to reinstate Savage. Piper says Tunney should run for senate because of how long it has taken him to make a decision. Heenan then says Savage does not want to be reinstated and its all a ploy.

The Beverly Brothers w/ Genius vs. The Rockers

This took place at the 10/22 “Wrestling Challenge” tapings in Dayton, OH. Marty pisses off Beau by messing with his hair. Beau takes a breather then returns to hammer away. Marty makes a blind tag as The Rockers clear the ring. The Beverly Brothers hug on the outside. Shawn and Blake are now in the ring with Shawn getting the best of that encounter. Marty tags in and drops Blake with a super kick after a reversal sequence. Marty slides underneath Beau’s legs and goes after The Genius but is attacked from behind. Beau picks up Marty and rams him into the post then Shawn comes over to save his partner as we head to break. We return as Blake catches Marty with a powerslam for a nearfall. The Beverly Brothers cut off the ring then Beau knocks Shawn off of the apron. The Beverly Brothers hit a few double-team moves then Shawn makes the save on a pin attempt. Blake works a bearhug as Shawn rallies the crowd behind his partner. Blake hits a corner splash but eats boot on another charge in the corner then is hit with a facebuster as both men are down. Marty makes the tag as Shawn runs wild on Beau. Shawn runs wild and gets a nearfall with a corkscrew neckbreaker. The Rockers hit a double back drop for two but Blake makes the save. The match breaks down with all four men brawling then the bell rings as we learn the time-limit has expired and the match is a draw (11:11) **1/2. The Beverly Brothers taunt the crowd while Shawn does not seem too happy over the decision.

Thoughts: Really dull start but things picked up considerably after the break. Shawn seemed like he was in his own world here and not in sync with Marty and legitimately pissed off at the time-limit draw.

We get another plug for the Survivor Series Showdown.

Replay of Hulk Hogan on the Funeral Parlor. After that the hosts once again talk about the segment.

WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Skinner vs. Bret “The Hitman” Hart (c)

Another match that took place at the 10/22 Challenge tapings. Lord Alfred Hayes says all his friends will have a “jolly good time” watching the Survivor Series. Bret hits Skinner with an inverted atomic drop after ducking a leapfrog. Skinner bails then returns and yells at the referee. He cheap shots Bret in the corner but Bret reverses an Irish whip and works the arm for a while. Skinner yanks Bret into the corner then chokes him out with his boot. Skinner uses more choking as the announcers talk about the Survivor Series. Skinner switches to a reverse chinlock then tries to grab his alligator paw in the corner but is stopped by the ref. Skinner once again chokes out Bret but misses a charge in the corner then Bret runs wild until the Sharpshooter gets the win (6:57) *.

Thoughts: Nothing to this match at all. It was really slow-paced and neither guy showed much of anything to be honest. In interviews, Skinner said he had to work in actual workboots customized into wrestling boots and that it was really hard to adapt. I guess that is why he barely did anything in his matches and relied on what I would call opening match heel offense.

Heenan is calling up the Savage/Elizabeth hotline and teases Savage to come out of hiding.

Texas Tornado defeats Big Bully Busick from the 10/28 MSG show.

Jake Roberts defeats Eric Freedom from the 11/9 edition of “Superstars of Wrestling.”

The vignette of Slaughter getting his country back airs.

Vince plugs the Survivor Series Showdown that will feature comments from Hulk Hogan and The Undertaker.

The panel gives their final word on “The Gravest Challenge.” Perfect believes Hulkamania will finally be buried at Survivor Series. Piper and Heenan stand up and have a heated argument about Flair that ends with Piper tossing water at Heenan’s face before leaving.

Final Thoughts: I still like the roundtable format and prefer it over the stale studio joke format but with only two exclusive matches its not exactly must see viewing for someone who watches all the syndicated programming. I will say that Heenan, someone who is one of the best characters in company history, is really starting to become stale. He’s repeating the same jokes and in this format, although just two episodes in, is being outshined by Perfect and Piper. Anyway, next week is the Survivor Series Showdown so no roundtable format for that.
