WWF Superstars of Wrestling – November 2nd, 1991

By Brian Bayless on June 19, 2018

November 2, 1991

From the Wheeling Civic Center in Wheeling, WV

Your hosts are Vince McMahon, Roddy Piper, and Randy Savage. We learn that Savage was not reinstated by Jack Tunney. Savage then tells Jake Roberts he will not go down easy.

This week, we have Col. Mustafa vs. Sid Justice, Bret Hart vs. The Mountie, Legion of Doom, and Big Bossman in action plus The Undertaker on the “Funeral Parlor.”

Col. Mustafa w/ Gen. Adnan vs. Sid Justice

Adnan distracts Sid, allowing Mustafa to attack from behind but that has no effect. Sid then boots Mustafa in the gut and hits the powerbomb for the win (0:41). After the match, Adnan attacks from behind but also gets powerbombed.

Thoughts: Another easy win for Sid as he continues to dish out justice. Mustafa & Adnan are horrible and without Slaughter around are even more useless.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. You can get the WBF Championship event on VHS November 14th. We then see clips of the Ric Flair/Roddy Piper feud before hearing from Flair & Bobby Heenan. Flair & Heenan tease Hulk Hogan for not being the real world champion and that they do not want the WWF Title, they just want to beat Hogan.

Bruce Mitchell vs. Big Bossman

Bossman beats on Mitchell then we hear from him in an insert promo saying IRS is not above the law. Bossman then boots down Mitchell and chokes him out as Piper talks about everyone getting meaner with the Survivor Series approaching as Savage wants to get involved in the PPV. Bossman stays in control then hits Mitchell with a sidewalk slam for the win (1:58).

Thoughts: More hype for this Bossman/IRS feud, which is still struggling to gain any traction.

Nasty Boys w/ Jimmy Hart vs. Jim Arnon & Chris Hahn

Vince and Savage think Sgt. Slaughter should have a chance to get back his country while Piper is not convinced. Sags cheap shots Hahn after a handshake. The Nasty Boys beat on Hahn as the announcers put over the team as being nasty and gross. Arnon tags in and gets his ass kicked as Vince says the Nasty Boys are having fun. Vince tells us that El Matador and British Bulldog will be guests on “Prime Time Wrestling” as Nasty Boys hit the running powerslam/flying elbow drop combo for the win (2:34).

Thoughts: The announcers used this match to put over the new Slaughter angle as he tries to gain back his country. We also learned about guests on this week’s Prime Time.

Legion of Doom vs. Brian Costello & Peter Weeks

The LoD attack their opponents and toss Costello outside. They now beat on Weeks as we hear from them in an insert promo saying they will survive the Survivor Series and might not have any competition left when it ends. Costello tags in and gets hit with a press slam and a reverse neckbreaker before the LoD put him away with the Doomsday Device (2:15).

Thoughts: Typical squash match win from LoD as they hyped up their match at the Survivor Series.

Vince puts over the “WBF Magazine.”

Funeral Parlor with guest The Undertaker. We are shown Hulk Hogan’s personal casket as Bearer promises to make him look good at the Survivor Series. He then opens it up as The Undertaker sits up. Undertaker steps out and tells Hogan he will take his title belt and his soul as the camera zooms in on his eyes then the “Hulkamania” logo on the casket. The segment was brief but fine as they build up Undertaker as a threat to finally defeat Hulkamania.

Survivor Series Report with Gene Okerlund. We learn of two new Survivor Series matches that are: Jim Duggan & Jim Neidhart & The Dragon & Texas Tornado vs. Col. Mustafa & The Berzerker & Big Bully Busick & Skinner and The Rockers & Bushwhackers vs. Nasty Boys & Beverly Brothers. Not exactly two matches I’m dying to see.

The Mountie & Jimmy Hart head down to the ring with Jimmy carrying something in his hands that’s covered by a blanket that he puts underneath the ring. Bret Hart comes out as Vince says Mountie will be the #1 contender if he wins. Bret gives his glasses to a young girl in the front row then Mountie & Jimmy duck outside. Mountie grabs the mic and calls Bret “greaseball” before saying he knows why Bret is not putting the title on the line but wants the “beautiful hillbillies” in attendance to know why. Mountie demands Bret tell the crowd why its not a title match so Bret says its due to the fact Mountie is a jailbird. But as that happens, Jimmy tosses a bucket of water on Bret then Mountie hits him with the shock stick. We get the added sound effects while Vince screams that the water is intensifying the effects. Mountie & Jimmy celebrate as several officials run out to check on Bret. I liked this segment. Bret desperately needed a feud as guys like Warlord are not cutting it and The Mountie was able to get more than the other midcard heels on the roster.

Next week, we will get an update on Bret Hart. Also in action are Jake Roberts, Undertaker, Virgil, and featured match of Jim Neidhart vs. Ric Flair. We end with comments from all involved in next week’s featured match.

Final Thoughts: The big news this week was that Savage’s suspension was upheld. After that we saw the Bret/Mountie angle and the announcement of two more Survivor Series matches as the sweeps month shows remain action-packed.
