October 26, 1991
From the Wheeling Civic Center in Wheeling, WV
Your hosts are Vince McMahon and Randy Savage
In action this are The Undertaker, Ted DiBiase, and debut of El Matador. Also, more on what happened to Sid Justice last week and an interview with the Natural Disasters
Roddy Piper vs. Tanaka
Tanaka is still billed as being one-half of the Orient Express but is all by himself here. We see Ric Flair & Bobby Heenan in an insert promo putting over Piper’s ability but says like Hogan he is not the real world’s champion. Piper beats the crap out of Tanaka then uses a bulldog for the win (0:38). After the match, Piper grabs a chair and runs off the referee before looking into the camera and telling Flair he’s saving it for him.
Thoughts: They are still hyping the Piper/Flair feud as Piper can now wrestle.
WWF Update with Gene Okerlund. We are shown last week when El Diablo was revealed as Jake Roberts as he joined The Undertaker in beating down Sid Justice until Hacksaw Jim Duggan made the save. We hear from Jake as he tells Sid he’ll see the DDT.
Irwin R. Schyster vs. Chris Hahn
IRS takes Hahn down with a side headlock. The announcers talk about the Survivor Series then we hear from IRS in an insert promo telling Big Bossman he will pay at the Survivor Series. IRS continues to beat on Hahn then puts him away with the Write Off (1:32).
Thoughts: Easy win for IRS as his feud with Bossman is starting to get more focus as we approach the Survivor Series.
An ad for the Survivor Series airs.
Bob Bradley vs. El Matador
El Matador comes out holding his cape and twirls it around the ring. He takes Bradley down with an arm drag and a hip toss. Matador then hits a clothesline and a knee lift before the flying forearm gets the win (1:27).
Thoughts: They really sweetened the audio here as it made you believe El Matador was over but you could literally see people sitting with their arms folded in the front row. I guess they did have plans to push this character then.
Sgt. Slaughter is now standing in front of Paul Revere’s statue and puts over how Revere saw the light of freedom. Slaughter says he has seen the light of hope and that is the day he will get back the country he let down and is words will echo across the land. And these vignettes will continue.
Sonny Blaze vs. “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase w/ Sensational Sherri
DiBiases tosses Blaze outside as we hear from Virgil in an insert promo saying that while DiBiase’s bank account accumulates interest, he has his own interest and that is keeping the Million Dollar Title belt around his own waist. DiBiase continues to beat on Blaze as we see Sherri telling Virgil that DiBiase will get him then DiBiase uses the Million Dollar Dream for the win (1:57).
Thoughts: The DiBiase/Virgil feud has run its course and both guys have been downplayed but you can tell the company is starting to lose interest in Virgil.
The Dragon vs. Barry Hardy
Dragon works the arm then skins-the-cat and hits a crossbody. Dragon goes back to the arm as we get another plug about his “Superstars VI” magazine article. Dragon then hits a flying chop and finishes off Hardy with a flying body press (1:40).
Thoughts: Dragon was already fired by the time this aired. It was a disappointing run and the gimmick was terrible.
Vince hypes up the new “WBF Magazine” that talks about Gary Strydom and Lou Ferrigno’s comeback. That Ferrigno comeback never did happen.
Gene Okerlund welcomes The Natural Disasters & Jimmy Hart to the interview platform. The Disasters talk about being Tag Team Champions and surviving at the Survivor Series. As uninspired and generic as it gets.
Survivor Series Report with Gene Okerlund. New match announced is Roddy Piper & Bret Hart & British Bulldog & Virgil vs. Ric Flair & Warlord & Ted DiBiase & The Mountie. Piper/Flair is now the third most hyped match on Survivor Series, behind the Title match and Sid vs. Jake team stuff.
Duane Gill vs. The Undertaker w/ Paul Bearer
Undertaker catches Gill with a chokeslam as the announcers talk about the Wedding Hotline and what happened at the reception. We then hear from Jim Duggan in an insert promo telling Undertaker he is not afraid of the dark and will “board” Undertaker to death. Undertaker then hits Gill with his rope-walk attack before the tombstone gets the win (2:07). After the match, Gill is stuffed inside of a bodybag.
Thoughts: Another win to make Undertaker look strong heading into the Survivor Series.
Next week, we will see The Mountie vs. Bret Hart in a non-title match. The Mountie is shown telling Bret he is the excellence of electrocution. Savage is then shown holding up a sign to reinstate himself as he will visit President Jack Tunney again. Also, Sid Justice vs. Col. Mustafa as Sid promises that justice will be served.
Final Thoughts: A quiet show after what we saw last week. We got a new Survivor Series match announced and set up for some featured matches next week.
